Well it's true My December flopped (and yes it flopped) because it didn't have "pop hits". But still the album is great quality music.
Anyway she totally clocked him
I think her main point was that Clive doesn't know what a "pop hit" is. Lol
And yes. She dragged him. I'm not surprised though. Kelly's not afraid to spit the true tea. She may be sweet and cute, but she's also real and honest. It's what I love about her.
Barry Weiss took over Clive's position at RCA a few years ago, so she is no longer directly under him, so to speak. Clive is currently still the Chief Creative Officer of Sony Entertainment.
Haha well I spilled some pre-release tea a few years ago and issues came up, so I stayed pretty mum on it for a while. But basically it's so interesting how the label can really, really push artists in regard to the direction of an album and the kind of compromises that are made. PM me sometime and I'll throw some more info, most is pretty moot now but still interesting lol.
So I read a couple pages (on ONTD) where Clive claims Kelly wanted SUBG and Behind These Hazel Eyes off of Breakaway. And I had to scratch my head, cuz I swore Kelly WROTE BTHE. Which she did. So the hell is Clive trying to pull there.
And yeah, it's been common knowledge Clive has had no interest in her career since My December. We all really saw that with the failure to send "Sober" as a single, the end of promo for it, the treatment of "Already Gone" as a forced release and the crappy edit of the video. Clive's treated Kelly like crap since Breakaway and she (and even Cowell) have been consistent in how big a douche he's been to her. So obviously snaps and applause for her coming after Clive's fairytales.
And her final sentence? Is how to properly clock someone.

I don't know who is right here, Kelly or Clive, but I know for sure the most BS comes from all ATRL posters who like me know almost nothing

Although American Idol judge Simon Cowell had sided with Clarkson earlier, it seemed he begun to grow sick of the controversy as he was quoted saying,
“ Kiss and make up, decide what's best, get on with it! Clive Davis, at 80, is better than 99 per cent of the people in the music business in their 20s, 30s and 40. And he's not 80, he's less than 80. Kelly is one of the best and she always will be, but Clive is the boss of the record company. It's his job to advise."[27]

A few weeks after the release of My December, Clarkson publicly stated that all of the controversy regarding her "feud" with her label has been "blown way out of proportion". In a statement on her website, Clarkson stated:[28][29]
“ There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the release of "My December," much of which has focused on a supposed feud with my record label, in particular, Clive Davis. I want to set the record straight on this by saying that I want my band, my advisors, those close to me and my record label to be one big, tightly knit family. Like any family we will disagree and argue sometimes but, in the end, it's respect and admiration that will keep us together. A lot has been made in the press about my relationship with Clive. Much of this has been blown way out of proportion and taken out of context. Contrary to recent characterizations in the press, I'm well aware that Clive is one of the great record men of all time. He has been a key advisor and has been an important force in my success to date. He has also given me respect by releasing my new album when he was not obligated to do so. I really regret how this has turned out and I apologize to those whom I have done disservice. I would never intentionally hurt anyone. I love music, and I love the people I am blessed to work with. I am happy that my team is behind me and I look forward to the future.
Didn't him and Avril get into it as well over Goodbye Lullaby. I wonder what she will have to say.
It wasn't with Clive, but various executives over at RCA, who repeatedly delayed its release from 2009 until Avril agreed to record more radio friendly, upbeat material and collaborate with Max Martin. She was initially offered 2 million to scrap some of her songs for new material but after she refused they simply postponed the album until she caved. She wrote about it shortly before the release of What the Hell:

How’s it going?? So… I just wanted to fill you guys in…I’m done with my 4th record!!! Well, actually I have been done for a year… and now my record company have finally decided to release it. OMG..How nice! Thanks guys.
I have been dying to get back out on the road and do what I love the most… PLAY MUSIC. I know you guys have been waiting for a long time…..and so have I, but not by choice. I have been sitting with this record for a year now. It’s really special to me. I have produced a couple tracks alone for the first time, written solo, with friends, I have pushed myself and I feel proud.
In saying all that, this has been a really difficult record for me to create and to release. Not only is this the most meaningful and special record I have written, it is sincere, honest and close to my heart. But for the first time I experienced a bunch of bureaucratic BS. People do their best work when they are doing what they want, love and is natural for them, not when you are forcing them to be something that they are not.
From the beginning of my career my message has always been to be yourself and stand up for what you believe in. Follow your heart.
My first single off this record is called: “What The Hell”. This song is the least personal song to me off this album. It’s a fun and funny anthem. It has a broad message about personal freedom. It is the most pop track on the record.
I am shooting the video in 2 weeks and it will be out in January. I have been extremely busy designing Abbey Dawn and taking the line internationally for the first time, establishing “The Avril Lavigne Foundation” and focusing on my personal happiness and health. Balance!
Love you guys!
xo Avril
She discussed it in more detail in this interview (starts at 2:00):
But back on topic, props to Kelly for doing this. I don't really use anything past My December, but I have so much respect for her as a person.
But Kelly's statment you posted was still when he was her boss, it was probably more of a "damage control" statement rather than a completely honest statement from the bottom of her heart, which is logical if your boss wanna sabotage your album
clive is such a hypocrite. argh. Kelly remains unbothered and classy by all these. I hope the amount of press kelly is getting will bump up both her album and single sales.
Clive can take a seat now. Glad that Kelly doesn't let herself being dragged by him. He's a liar, obviously. Why would Kelly make up all these fights with her label? It's not like she wanted to sabotage her own album.
So glad she spoke out against him and didn't let herself being torn apart by him like Whitney. It takes a lot to speak up against a legend and music mogul like him, but Kelly just doesn't care about money or influence, she just speaks her mind and points out injustice. Joan of Arc of the music biz

But then again, It shows us all parties makes politics Artists and the Suits.
