# 8 0 NICKI MINAJ - "ROMAN HOLIDAY"
By far Nicki's most creative track, accompanied by the best performance of her career. Nicki unleashes her male alter ego, Roman, while her fairy godmother, Martha, frets and panics over the chorus trying to get Roman to calm down, take his meds, and get his head together on vacation.
Unfortunately, this track didn't quite have the replay value I was hoping for, it was the memories of the Grammy performance and the initial listens of the track that got this song to #80 in the countdown.
# 7 9 GRIMES F/ MAJICAL CLOUDZ - "NIGHTMUSIC"
Listen to this song when it's the middle of the night, pitch black, and you're the only one in the room. I dare you. That's how I first listened to the track and I could barely get through it, the song was initially extremely scary.
But right now, I love the song. Dark electronics, and I like the sound of Grimes' voice. I have no idea what she's saying, but I find that her music isn't about lyrics. Her music relies on production and sound to convey and create emotions, and "Nightmusic" is no different. The song makes me feel on edge, but it also has a relaxing factor to it. I love the song for that reason, it's so complex and makes me feel polar emotions, and no average song could make me feel that.
# 7 8 KREAYSHAWN - "GO HARD (LA.LA.LA)"
Time for me to stop paying attention to the artistic qualities of songs, and just let loose, and have fun. This is the perfect song to achieve that, a dance-pop/rap ratchet anthem.
# 7 7 M.I.A - "BAD GIRLS"
I had to listen to this song a few times before I saw the genius in it. But now that I have, it's an amazing track. The arabian synths, the accent, everything just comes together to create one of the most interesting tracks of the year.
# 7 6 USHER - "CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP"
The magic in this track lies in the sample, "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel. Usher did a great job on building upon something as great as the sample, and will.i.am actually did a good job producing this track. Credit to both of them.
# 7 5 KYLIE MINOGUE - "TIMEBOMB"
Remember this? Didn't think so. It was released as a celebratory campaign for Kylie's 25 years in the industry. Impressive, right?
The song is pretty straightforward and simple, but that's what makes it so good. The particular synths used are easy on the ear and leave you wanted to hit the replay button, no matter how many times you may (probably not) have heard this song.
# 7 4 LOREEN - "EUPHORIA"
Before this song was released, I had no idea who Loreen was, and I had never heard of Eurovision in my life. But, that has obviously changed now with the release of "Euphoria", a slice of euro-pop perfection with awesome vocals, and a vocal melody in the chorus that always reminds me of the Titanic song.
Sweden should be proud of Loreen, adding another song to the ever-growing collection of amazing swedish pop songs.
# 7 3 COVER DRIVE - "TWILIGHT"
I loved this track from the get-go, and I was so excited that I had found a new band/artist that I really liked (this was earlier in the year when I hadn't really found anyone new in a while). Being a Rihanna stan, I was instantly drawn to the caribbean influences in the track, and complete with "la la la"s and everything else that makes a pop song so special, this track is totally deserving of it's place in the countdown.
# 7 2 RITA ORA - "RADIOACTIVE"
At first, I didn't think this track lived up to the full potential. I still don't. But, what we have is enough to make it to #72 on this countdown.
The track to me is screaming to be so much more. The little vocal breakdown/sample should have been utilised a lot more, and the track should have packed more of a punch. A little underwhelming, Rita, but good nonetheless.
# 7 1 ICONA POP F/ CHARLI XCX - "I LOVE IT" 'You're from the 70's, but I'm a 90's bitch!' the swedish duo yell over one of the most infectious tracks of the year. The yelling (because I wouldn't call it 'singing') gives the track a hard edge, which isn't something you hear in a dance-pop song nowadays. The track is fairly repetitive, but it just makes the song all the more infectious.
Also, this is Charli's debut on the countdown, although personally I can't tell her voice in the track.
You actually made me listen to Ed Sheeran's Small Bump His music isn't really my cup of tea but Small Bump & The A Team are nice.
Did your heart get ripped out of your chest at the end?
Every. Single. Time.

While I agree that they're immensely talented, I also believe that majority of the industry are talented in their own ways. Not sure if you were shading them or not, but that includes all the pop girls.
Loreen should have been higher , but Roman Holiday and Twilight are great songs. Can't Stop Won't Stop is one of the best from Looking 4 Myself - it's Usher doing what he does best.

You know, for someone who used to be an alt. rock stan, you love a surprising amount of pop.
I remember when I first saw "Twilight" on TV and I was like because I thought I had found the coolest band ever.
