Super Bass
"Somebody please tell ‘em who the f*** I is"
You may thank Taylor Swift for creating one of the biggest songs of 2011; Nicki certainly has… at Taylor’s concert… and the AMAs… and Billboard… and in interviews… and on twitter. It was actually a video of Nicki and Taylor performing
Super Bass together that made me decide to give Nicki a chance in the first place, and she’s certainly made a fan out of me. I’ve only been listening to this song for about three months, but I’m just so addicted to it.
04 Britney Spears
Till The Worlds Ends
"See the sunlight, we ain‘t stopping, keep on dancing till the world ends"
When the tracklist for Femme Fatale was first released, I predicted that this would be my favorite song on the album. Once I found out that it was co-written by Kesha, I started to have my doubts, but upon I hearing it, I knew that I was right.
Till The World Ends is an epic dance song that further cements my belief that the best songs Kesha writes are the ones she writes for other artists. Several times over the summer when I actually stayed up all night reading, I’d look out my window to see the sun rising and I’d say to myself “see the sunlight, I’m not stopping, keep on reading till the night ends.”
03 Lady Gaga
Marry The Night
"I‘m a soldier to my own emptiness, I‘m a winner"
Put your paws up if you remember the night
Marry The Night was released via FarmVille. On a more serious note, I am a lifelong insomniac, so anything about loving the night is fine by me. Fernando Garibay delivered a masterpiece with this one, and those opening church bells are nothing short of iconic. This song is like energy incarnated, with its massive chorus and breakdown. However, my favorite part of the song may actually be the juxtaposition of “kiss the bartender twice” and “I’m a loser.”
02 Adele
Set Fire To The Rain
"I set fire to the rain, watched it pour as I touched your face"
I bet you thought I’d end the list of top singles of 2011 without Adele sitting in the top 3; she’s been slaying the radio all year long, and she’s just getting started. Even though
Set Fire To The Rain was just sent to radio recently, it’s been sitting in the top 50 on iTunes and the Hot 100 for months, and it’s guaranteed to get even bigger with time, because it is quite clearly her best single release from 21 yet.
01 Lady Gaga
Edge of Glory
"There ain‘t no reason you and me should be alone tonight"
I could write a full page long essay about why I love this song, but I’ll just summarize and say that I have NEVER been as emotionally connected to a song as I am to
Edge of Glory; this song
literally gives me life. It’s quite easily my favorite pop song of all time.
So, that concludes my top 30 singles of 2011... I may do one or two more random posts before Christmas, and then after Christmas we’ll start my top 50 album tracks. Top albums, top artists and top music videos will come after New Year’s!
