#3: "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend"
Second Half Season 1 / First Half Season 2
There have only been a handful of comedies throughout my TV watching history that I can truly say I've really liked, so I never would have imagined a comedy making any sort of TV show list of mine. But Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has completely redefined for me just how good a comedy can be. The show manages to explore a ton of deep issues and themes like the realities of mental illness, feminism, self-perception, and the toxicity of too much dependency on others in an extremely well written way that feels genuinely sincere instead of just the show attempting to grab at "edgy" topics as a way of seeming intelligent. And despite the profound way the show is able to deliver complex messages, it still manages to be one of the funniest shows I've ever watched. The main highlight of this show is easily its musical numbers, where showrunner and lead actress Rachel Bloom gets to not only show off her musical prowess, but also her incredibly witty and clever sense of humour in musical satires and loose parodies whose origins range from 80s rock to Broadway tunes to contemporarily artists like Beyonce and even Fifth Harmony. Instead of relying on cliche tropes for laughter, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend earns most of its laughs from calling out those tropes and writing jokes that make you think, but are much funnier as a result. The characters all feel real and deeply explored, with none of them feeling like they're just there to deliver punchlines. All in all, the title of the show and its basic premise (girl moves to remote town to chase after boy she's obsessed with) may make it seem childish on first impression, but if you actually give it a chance, you'll see it's really the exact opposite for this series whose amazing writing matches up with even the best dramas.
Water Under the Bridge is one of my favorite songs on 25.
I've heard good things about Mr. Robot so I'll definitely check it out. So glad to see Game of Thrones here. I'm currently engrossed in the books as well and they're so good.
Not sure if I'll be able to get today's update done (I've been in and out of the house quite a bit today because it's my birthday ), so if I don't, then I'll just push it to tomorrow since there wasn't supposed to be an update tomorrow anyways.
So yeah, update isn't gonna be today since I just got home and I'm tired. I'll do #20-16 tomorrow, and then #15-11 will be on Sunday as originally planned.
SITWYM and final song slay at least ellie should've done a better video with sitwym

#20: "Rockabye"
Clean Bandit feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie
Rockabye is my most recent discovery in my Top 50, and when I heard it for the very first time, I wouldn't have imagined placing it so high on a list of my favourite songs of the year. But this song grew on me extremely quickly. Clean Bandit's production is absolutely stellar, with the song's string-filled sections contrasting against its tropical moments to make a song that manages to be both catchy and mature. The lyrics are quite deep and emotional for an upbeat dance track, with a sweet and comforting message. While I could do with less Sean Paul, his unique style fits the production of this track well, so his contribution feels earned. Ultimately, though, it's the vocals from Anne-Marie that really shine on this song, with her soft and rich tone going perfectly with the production. After loving Rather Be so much, I'm happy that Clean Bandit was able to get another hit with another incredible song.
