I know, I've been shading her too much lately. :-/
I don't even really have an issue with Adele. She's talented, a lot of her music is really enjoyable and of a high quality, and I've always found her really pleasant/likable in any sort of interview she's given. I guess I'm mostly put-off by the condescending tone that some of her fans adopt; the way they talk about her music having soul, as if they've always been mindful of meaningful music and they've never enjoyed a silly Katy Perry tune.
And I also just sorta hate these movements to elevate certain artists with potential to some status of infallible musical Messiah. As good as
21 is, I can't help but feel like a good part of its success and acclaim couldn't be attributed to the hype machine and this insistence that Adele's created something beyond amazing. This sort of thing happens every couple years and it's previously ruined people like Amy and Gaga (to a lesser extent) for me.
And at the same time, I also realize that perhaps I'm reluctant to sing praise for Adele simply because I would be joining the masses and feeding that hype machine. And with that in mind, I sort of come to the realization that the act of avoiding something that's
trendy simply because you don't want to be seen as someone who's jumping onto a trend is, well, it's more ridiculous than jumping on the Adelewagon simply because it's the thing to do.
So yeah, I'm silly.
