Well obviously not every era is going to fit. But even with Ariana, she had better songs lined up for singles. It's not necessarily the hit that matters in this sense, since most people thought IY would have been the better choice anyway. I would say that lead singles in general are not really all that special. I think we hype them up but sometimes the other material is simply better. Unfortunately, with Gaga you never really know when it comes to the publics opinion though.

Nope. She should stay true to her vision and not diverge information on how she was sad etc or who chose what or how when it underperformed you were miserable , equally on how artsy you are. Those are talks you give in interviews when you hit your 50's and look back into the legacy you built.
As i said earlier, flop with dignity and class, by showing your working hard to let people assist you in your vision, then make better music next time or go to plan b even if its remastering a song but be unapologetic.

Regardless of what we think of the quality, it is not lead single material.

Hmm, judging by her statement here though she seems alright. She actually stayed they picked it as a team. Like yeah, artpop was a mess, but she stood by it even knowing when it was time to move on.

Well, with all the interviews she gave during artpop, the unnecessary artsy video and the beginning of this era. She's sadly been doing the opposite.
I actually loved her Jazz era, great energy and vibe, she was laid back and literally enjoying the music without pity interviews, that's the persona we need this pop era. She slayed back then and i enjoyed the music.
Edit: Equally enjoyed her Born This Way thanksgiving special. Jazz elicits a progressed Gaga that reminds one of Her Fame persona. Her white Christmas rendition was pure heaven and unique.

Artpop is over, done, FIN! As far as I'm concerned
she really hasn't talked about success this era either, all she talks about is what PI Is about and how great it was to work with the team of producers she's had this era. She's off to a good start. The jazz era is different because the music she was singing isn't her own, so she is unscathed by critics since that music isn't her own creative output. But yeah i enjoyed that era too!

it's quite strange given her previous statements "first time I don't care how it does on the charts" etc
What I do know is, Applause was chosen because the label thought it was the best song. After listening to the disaster that was ARTPOP, I agreed. Some monsters like to pretend DWUW was better but it certainly didn't do as well on the charts. This probably means there really isn't much commercial material left on the album.. which wouldn't really matter if she wasn't coming off such a flop disaster era.

I'm a lil worried, I really hope PI isn't the most GP friendly, commercial song on the album...

It IS going the be the most commercial song on the album, which is why the rest of it will be better.

No one should ever have varying opinions, especially when they aren't insulting.

How is it creepy to want you threadbanned?
Do you not understand the difference between repsectfully stating your opinion, and being rude and insulting? If not, I'm sorry for you.

You guys do realize this is most likely going to pull a Just Dance/Poker Face, right? Both are great, but Poker Face is iconic. Just you wait for the 2nd single.

Gaga girl, I thought you don't care about success? Why did you have to conform with your label's decision(s) ?

That means nothing. TEOG and DWUW are best of BTW/ARTPOP and they weren't the lead singles.

They always make the trash decisions, so... There are a lot of bops on the album

Some of you take stuff way too seriously…
Maybe she just said the label chose it because that's what actually happened and she was explaining the entire process? Why does it have to be her placing the blame, and some of you trying to write paragraphs on how she's being a hypocrite and suddenly not being about the music.
It's really not that serious. Like who even cares

Didn't Gaga herself pick Born This Way as the lead?
But basically this.
