I'm encouraging you to be cautiously open-minded and considerate of views that don't necessarily agree with your own. It's important to not ideologically isolate yourself: the USA is a vastly diverse country with an increasingly complex social environment. Today it's more critical than ever to understand the opposition and the many conflicting political beliefs.
What's not okay is to attempt to silence any discussion that aims to reflect on the interplay between social identity and political ideology.
