Wow...I don’t even know what to say. That list is ********! It's lists like these that are the reasons why music is in the state it is in now.
R.I.P. Music beginning of time - 1999.
This list started off wrong simply by it having 90 men and only 10 women. I mean really, only 10 females?? What in the male chauvinist hell?l There are a lot more talented and more successful women who did not make it on that ****** list than men.
But since this is thread is about the Top 10 females, I'll address that.
In my opinion, the greatest artists, mostly known as Legends, are the ones who put out QUALITY music and who influenced and inspired a younger generation of artists who too will go on to become greats and Legends themselves. With that said, in my opinion the list should have been like this.
1. Madonna
I have NEVER been a fan of hers (and probably never will) but I would be a FOOL to deny her influence in music. She birthed Lady Gaga, Christina, Britney and all of the other pop princesses.
2. Janet
the ONLY reason why she isn’t number one is she killed her own career in 2004 during the Super Bowl Half time show. And I bet that is why she didn’t make the list. She birthed Aaliyah and Ciara.
3. Aretha
‘Nuff said. LOL and she birthed Mary J Blige and Fantasia.
4. Tina
See Aretha. She birthed Beyonce.
5. Patti Labelle
See Aretha. She birthed...everyone LOL!
6. Whitney
Whitney in her prime was without a doubt THE greatest singer of all time. She birthed Monica and Brandy.
7. Mariah
Mariah in her prime is the ONLY artist who came close to Whitney’s vocal ability. Mariah has some GREAT songs, “Vision of Love”, “Hero”, “One Sweet Day”. She birthed Leona Lewis
8. Mary
Mary is a emotional singer. She gives you so much of herself and a lot of people can relate to her. She not only birthed R&B singing over Hip Hop beats, she birthed Keyisha Cole, Monica too, Ashanti, Alicia Keys..hell a lot of the new generation.
9. Beyonce
Although I think Beyonce is the best of THIS generation, there is no way in hell is she better than the 8 women before her. She is a good singer, ok dancer and gives her all in performances, but she lacks musically, and that is a huge disadvantage for her. I don’t know who she birthed because she hasn’t been in the game long enough to be called a legend who has influenced anyone. But I will say she is an ICON and HOPEFULLY she will put out QUALITY music starting with her fourth CD which could lead her on the path of becoming a Legend.
10. Alicia
I respect the fact that Alicia tries really hard to be an ARTIST. I believe she takes her craft very seriously. I put her below Beyonce because although she is better musically, vocally she isn’t as good as her and don’t even get me started on her “dancing” LOL. But I do believe in time that she will be a Legend in her own way.

LOL I know music didn't start in 1980. Patti and Aretha >>> all of them! My list is a mixture of my personal taste with VH1's list. I take it that they pulled artists from different generations. Mine is more about passing the torch on to others. I know Madonna, Janet and others were influenced by people before them...and if I was soley basing my list on my personal taste, Beyonce NOR Alicia would be on there.

I don't think Mariah has ever been that respected on that level if I'm being honest. When people think of big voices I think Aretha, Whitney, and Celine all come before her.
