oh pls, the 49ers vs ravens superbowl didnt have chance at all. first of all, kaep was a back up a few weeks before the game. no one knew who he was, and thats a huge factor. also, that game would be equivalent to the cardinals vs chiefs playing this season: you have one qb who hasnt proven himself yet that is backed by great defense and running game vs suspect/unknown qbs who also have a great defense and running game. also, the ravens and niners are not popular at the national scale. its not even close.
and pls, peyton was the draw last yr. he's considered the greatest regular season qb of all time, but he has failed in the playoffs, so him playing in the superbowl is a rare thing. there was also a possibility of him retiring after the season if he won. i mean people continued to watch even though they got blown out in the first quater. the broncos were voted america's team and its solely bc of peyton. people love him and root for him

Also, the stories that could unravel is the most effective way of bringing views. In 2012, there was the epic match up, Eli having more rings than Peyton and Brady potentially getting his 4th ring to tie Montana. In 2013, the only story to see was ray Lewis retiring with a ring but he was hurt and on the defensive end so it was pretty obvious he wont the reason the ravens win. Last yr, there were great stories to write from Peyton getting his second ring and retiring to legion of boom and the potential dynasty of Seattle.
This yr has a ton of great stories too
1. Brady losing 3 straight or finally tying Montana
2. Sherman vs revis: Both are the best CB and people will be watching to see who is gonna make plays for their team.
3. Seattle dynasty
4. Deflated footballs
5. Both are loved/hated.
Only reason the ratings wont be great is if people don't want either team to win so they won't watch, like a member said earlier. The reason you watch to root against a team is hoping the other team beats them, but they're both unlikable.
-------
Also the views difference from 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 was like 5 mil. That's 1/20th of the 100 mil+ that watched. It's not that big of a deal
