That's what I really wanted, but we all knew that would NEVER happen.
In these times, I don't think Madonna could get away with that. And Interscope probably thought the same.

Some of the Madonna fans on this board are an absolute mess. Accepting the fact that this song is a flop doesn't discredit her achievements or diminish her potential to smash in the future. However, a handfull of you sound pathetic trying to redefine the word flop, adding in irrelevant criteria in a desperate attempt to liberate GMAYL from flop status; "she's 53", "she's not at the height of her career", etc...Listen, a flop is a flop.
So just accept that GMAYL is a failure and prepare for what has the potetntial to be her true comeback single, and at least one of two songs that should have lead the album, Girls Gone Wild.

Get away with a cutting edge artistic, deep song?
Why wouldn't she?
It is what the world is expecting from her!!!!!!
Frozen was so ****ing outside of what was on the radio for it's time and it not only smashed but became a classic.
I think she just does not care for music anymore, she just releases to fulfill a label requisite or something

GMAYL is technically #9
Whitney died and billboard changed their rules, so I will always love you at #7 is pushing GMAYL to #10

And I have never heard anyone refer to a Top 10 hit as a flop before, so who is doing the redefining? I just think that Madonna haters do an unfair combination of saying she will flop then acting high and mighty even when it does well.

I agree. I think she could have easily have gotten away with better stuff like Frozen or Vogue on her new album, and it bothers me that she's been so focused on creating mainstream stuff lately. I'm not very familiar with most of Madonna's discography, but from what I can discern, she hasn't really tried to make quality music like her earlier work since American Life, and even that's debatable.

Actually, it was #10
And "Judas" was not a flop. WTF is this?

So technically GMAYL scored higher (If you follow my Whitney/Billboard argument above)

AGREED. Judas didn't follow up the massive success of Born This Way so it felt like a flop, but it was still successful. People's expectations can be odd.

Let's be honest, in these times "Frozen" couldn't be released as a lead single and smash. Not even from Madonna.

How is this song not a flop?
The only reason it barely went top 10 is because they crammed so much promo into one week to help it go #1:
American Idol video premiere,
3 iTunes banners
A video release the next day
Radio payola
2 hot collabos on the song,
An LMFAO remix released to iTunes and radio
a performance at the most watched event in TV history
Non-traditional promo like street ads.
and in the end it hangs on lifelessly to #10, ready to plummet down into oblivion.

Gaga is (or was) in her prime.
Madonna's been in the business for 3 decades.

Context is key. #10 on the billboard charts for a hugely hyped first single performed on America's most watched Television broadcast, and it' video debuted on American Idol is not something to be proud of in an age where songs easily debut in the top 5 with no promotion at all, and still peak higher.

What does that have to do with anything?
That doesn't change the fact it still hit the top 10, A FLOP is "Marry The Night". This is an underperforming single. Please learn your facts.

And JUDAS was a ****ing flop too for anyone saying it wasn't. Dismal debut, and absolutly ZERO longevity.

I disagree, it would garner the same attention for being something 'so different' and 'unexpected' from her
