Other celebs don't actively try to be an icon for the gay community; a lot of gays are just naturally attracted to them because of their music, style, whatever.
The gays who don't like Gaga don't want her being seen as a representation of us. She, by herself, her team, and mostly her fans, almost forces herself into the gay community. A lot of gays, and straights in the general public act like she's the voice of all the queers of the world, when in reality, she isn't. I personally think it's great that she supports the gays, but I think she uses us far more than she needs to to up her star power, gain controversy, and attention.
Don't me mad because some of us see through the antics.

How is this different from Madonna or Kylie Minogue being seen as your representation before Gaga came along? You can't influence that either way. It's not Gaga's fault that the average person's perception of a huge entire community is limited to stereotypes about promiscuity and the face of one person

Plenty of people are providing good arguments.
But honestly, the point is that this man was wrong in some of what he was saying, but he was in right in that Gaga and gay are continually bunched together in the public eye for no reason except for that Gaga is the largest gay community supporter in modern-day pop culture. He's right about how Gaga should not be the poster child for the gay community just because she supports them.

@ you thinking that post was referring to you. It's telling.
The only post I made in this thread referencing you was discussing you trying to support your argument by mentioning someone's Emmy nomination and calling it out for the pathetic and weak straw-man that it is.

She hasn't forced herself to be a representative for us, only the haters are the ones that think that.
She's a powerful celebrity using said power to push for gay equality. Because of that, she gets a lot of praise from the gay community. It's a natural cycle.
All I know is that it's partially thanks to her my current romantic interest can serve in the military while pursuing a relationship with me. She has my gratitude. That's all that matters.

I'm think i'm gonna leave.

I'm not sure how many times I can say this. She nor anyone here WANTS her to be the poster child for the gay community.

Gaga doesn't feed anything. She has not done a god damn thing for the gay community except get rich off us and make a portion of the general public think we're all a a bunch of tacky-dressed "little monsters." She's no more of a gay icon than the millions of other people who support gay rights - which yes, I do appreciate - but don't put her on a pedestal and act like we owe her a damn thing, because we don't.
That's the problem. You guys act like Gaga is the saving grace to the gay community and the reason why we are able to live and breathe each day.
|
WHEN?
I'm sick of you ****s putting words in us monsters mouths
Jay was using an expression and referring to the fact that she's SUPPORTIVE of gays, so we shouldn't be against her.
I won't even try to go in on the middle part cause I think most people here know it's ridiculous

Dephira and Peanut were the only ones pro-Gaga in here that made any sense, the rest resulted to low levels of insult to get their point across when this isn't even that type of thread. In the end, his words still stand like a brick wall.
"Gaga does not speak for me"

Gerl no, these other bitches are getting rich off of us just like she is. The KI is none of these other pop bitches getting rich off of us are actively helping us out, some of them don't even speak on us period until it's video treatment or album release time.
If anything, I would like someone to at least show they care about my community, especially if they're gonna use my community for financial gains.
What does speaking on immigration laws, injustices in other countries, racism, and even lending a helping hand to other countries when natural disasters take place have to do with gay people in general? Gaga aint trying to be a gay icon. She is looking out for everyone, nawt only homosexuals.
Antics like taking part in the equality march, were you there?
Antics like rallying up people to fight against DADT, did you?
Antics like making public speeches, have you?
Antics like flying over to to other countries and using your free time to help out struggling communities, have you?
The only antics are her ridiculous outfits and dramatics.

Why is Gaga suddenly the poster child for the gay community, though, is why this guy is irritated. He's irritated by how Gaga and gay are bunched together.

And plenty of people dislike them, too. I personally can't stand that gap-toothed, over-muscled, fake accent "icon" but the difference is I rarely see a huge following of idiots her followers throwing a damn fit someone in the gay community doesn't refer to her as their icon.
The biggest point of that man's rant was that, at the end of the day, Gaga is a straight white woman. Great, she loves her queens. Awesome. However, she's not one of us. Sorry, it's the harsh truth. I didn't believe the bisexuality "coming out" story when my own fave did it, I'm not gonna believe it when Gaga does it, either. She comes off phony to a lot of people, and some are offended when dumbasses like the ones in this thread claim she "feeds us". Gaga has impacted no aspect of my life except for a few slots on my iTunes. She is not owed anything, and there is nothing wrong with the gay community being critical of her. Obviously some of the things said strike some nerves with the Gaga stans for them to be all up in arms over one crowd's thoughts.

Yes, GaGa does not speak for every individual gay. But she has done plenty to further the cause of gay rights that accept it all. It is partially thanks to her that DADT was repealed and that NY Marriage Equality passed.
You can not like her level of exposure, and you can dislike her as an artist, but to blatantly disrespect someone who has helped two monumental cases in our rights is just silly.

"Gay guy DRAGS Gaga for filth."
"Hitler"
Gerl sit. You only replied to them because you couldn't reply to everybody in here getting you together, with LOGIC, and VALID points.
Our words still stand, Gaga is getting rich off of us but she is actually helping us out. None of these other pop bitches are.

Exactly. I don't understand why so many people have a problem with what this guy is saying. Yes, some of what he said was extremely stupid and unintelligent, but his ultimate point is very valid and almost correct. It's ludicrous that someone who supports the gay community is thought of as the voice of the gay people.

There's nothing wrong with being critical of her, but yet again; DADT and NY Marriage Equality. That's a pretty hefty mouthful to me.
Sorry, but refusing help from someone for "not being one of us" is stupid. It's flat out stupid. That's how you manage to CONTINUE being oppressed, by drawing lines on who and who cannot help you.
