We don't live in the US but we have something called Internet and I'm pretty sure WBT has 8.5 billion audience impressions and counting that's probably higher than all the airplay points of the songs you mentioned added together.
And Billboard does not 'choose' this. All they do is to compile points for each single based on its airplay AND sale and rank them. Real popularity ? I don't think you live in Alaska too and know which song is the most popular there

Funny how USA is such a big country and there are people who just listen to their district's radio station and 'gauge' how popular each song is on a national scale.
