So Fergie's long-awaited music comeback is finally here... and it bombed. The problem isn't her or her age like people are trying to make it seem, the problem is the song is weak as hell. There are some parts on which she sounds like Iggy Azalea. Better luck next time.
John Legend "You & I (Nobody In The World)"
John Legend emerged from under a rock this year, smashed worldwide with All of Me and then went back into hiding. You & I is a very beautiful song indeed but it's just as forgettable as it can get. Perhaps it was a wrong single choice.
The Fray "Break Your Plans"
The Fray used to be one of my favorite bands, I don't really know what's happening to them but they sound rather uninspired lately. This is by far their weakest single and video and as expected it was paid dust. I honestly hope they don't get dropped or split up.
HAIM "Forever"
HAIM is one of the very few artists from the mediocre class of 2013 that's worth remembering. Forever just screams 80s, it's so catchy and filled with joy. I'm expecting big things from them next year.
Zedd feat. Haylie Williams "Stay The Night"
Rising from the leftover pile of 2013 comes this EDM/alternative song. As I've said before Zedd just can't be compared to his (untalented) peers. He actually cares about what his music sounds like. Great vocals, excellent production and REAL instruments, perfect combo.
Nico & Vinz "When the Day Comes"
One of my favorite new artists this year, Nico & Vinz are just different from the rest. They have this african-influenced sound that's totally irresistible. This song is very underrated but that's possibly because it wasn't even released in the US. The video is so cute.
Passenger "Scare Away the Dark"
Am I the only one who noticed Passenger released a new album this year? Such a shame cause you guys are missing out. This song is like a poem, it has no main chorus but the lyrics are so deep and honest they just go right through you. Truly a hidden gem.
Idina Menzel "Let It Go"
My second highest guilty pleasure of the year. Given the fact that Frozen was an overrated mess I just refused to give this song a chance for the longest time. Since Frozen characters were featured in OUAT this season I made myself watch the movie and the rest is history.
Kodaline "One Day"
It's beyond me why this band isn't more popular. I get their music is not precisely radio friendly but you'd expect more people would know about them by now. This is one of their best songs, part of the playlist that I use whenever I feel like disconnecting.
Hunter Hayes "Invisible"
Another severe case of a sophomore slump. Poor Hunter really took a big hit with this album, literally no one cared. It all started with this song, it's not bad, in fact it's beautifully written but it was just too bland for pop radio and too soft for country radio so it was bound to flop.
