Most films the Academy adore never do anything for the general public. They have become archaic and irrelevant. Demonstrated by the fact that after the nominations were revealed this year, it gave the nominated films an insignificant increase at the Box Office.
I don't agree with Hurt Locker winning at all. It shows how elitist they are. So many people will watch this film and not even realise the underlying messages it contains, they are far more subtle then the ones in Avatar.

Just because she put on a dick and a wig doesn't qualify her for the best oscar winner.
See, I can do it too

Meryls acting ***** on anyone else in hollywood, everyone recognises that apart from the academy. The other nominations are always like......to be in a catagory with streep is amazing, even oprah said to Gabby Sidibe. Every actor loves her, and she deserves more than 2 oscars. To say she only has one more than bullock is

You are right on point. Sandra's win is such an insult not only to the amazing legendary Meryl Streep, but to any other more deserving actress who was snubbed by the academy over the years. The academy is so pathetic tho, Sandra has been doing the same roles all her career and as soon as she steps out of her little box she gets an OScar? Whos next? Perhaps Jennifer Aniston? Watch her doing something a little different from her usual romantic comedy ******** roles next year and she'll probably win too.

Exactly, it is an insult to the amazing performances that haven't recieved an awards let alone Meryls countless nominations which have all been brilliant performances. I think just the same, as soon as she changed from her typical role she gets the highest reward which is stupid. Meryl does a different character every single time, and because of this, people know how versatile and talented she is, and almost ignore it. Bullock winning definitely allows other actresses to possibly win, who are very much mediocre. It's just a joke some of the perfomances that have lost out on an academy award.

I was mad when Meryl lost an oscar with her amazing performance in The Devil Wears Prada, was furious when she lost with Doubt and now she is snubbed again with her portrayal of Julia Child. Really, Academy?

^ She was fantastic in all those films, yet loses all the time. They just like to give them to people who haven't won before, and those who self promote alot. Everytime meryl has lost, it has always been to someone who has never won. She needs to be in a catagory full of previous winners for the academy to give it to her.

Ben Stiler was hysterical last night. Neil Patrick harris was great also. Im glad Sandra & Jeff Bridges won. Plus Im so thrilled a woman finally won the Best director catagory plus Im glan Avatar didnt win best picture. Just because you're not a fan of Sandra's doesnt mean she didnt deserve to win. E1 who is nominated has a shot at winning and deserves to win.

That's because the general public pretty much likes ****** films (Ex: Avatar, Transformers 2, all Tyler Perry movies) and they sure as hell don't deserve Oscars. To you it's irrevelant and archaic, but to those that love film it isn't. Now they do get it wrong (the snubbing of the The Dark Knight and The Color Purple, Sandy winning, arguably Halle Berry winning, the fact that Inglorious Basterds should have gotten best screenplay) but I'm glad they appreciate for the most part those that do their job well, in fact I wish the Grammy's were more like that.
Avatar got exactly what it deserved and it shouldn't have been nominated for as many as it did. That movie was nothing special once you got past the ooh's and aah's.

I love how Sandra Bullock went from an underrated actress to an overrated one in the matter of one evening.

^^ Exactly. The Academy still give award to what's (or who is) worthy! Unlike the Grammys that recently has been giving it's awards to whoever is popular at the moment...
Don't get mad at Meryl Streep losing, she's a fantastic actress, but giving awards to people who never won before is a great thing, or you want the boredom of seeing the same people winning everything each year on the show (like many music awards)?
