Both things should be included
we're talking about HOT COUNTRY SONGS
and sales, airplay & streaming reflects what songs are hot
If you want the country radio chart you'll still have the country airplay now

You guys aren't understanding the point.
If digital sales are based, Taylor is going to be #1 for the rest of the chart except for the odd time a new release comes. This means a song that is requested more on COUNTRY radio, will have little effect on it's place on COUNTRY songs. This chart is just going to be a result of who can get the most exposure outside the country genre now, which it shouldn't be.

It's only fair and worked if they have a specific accurate download chart for country songs, a specific streaming chart for country songs. And they can't never do that tbh.
We can't call a song the hottest COUNTRY songs if it got support from other genres

Again...
since late 2010 till she released her lead single, WANEGBT
she didn't get pop airplay at all, (she just went top 20 with TSOU, but it was only a pop single)
and none of her singles went top 20 on itunes, she's just having this succes now because she is going to release her albums, she'd do the same thing when she released speak now
Let's wait a couple of weeks, till the effect of Red's release is over and we'll see

I'm getting your point. That's why there is a separate airplay chart. If they don't do well on digital sales and do well only in airplay then airplay chart it is. It's really not hard to understand. All those previous #1s have been based on airplay alone so it's most fitting to call it an airplay chart only since other factors were not taken into account. :micahel:

they like it so they request it on country radios and listen to it when it's played on radio

Thing is Taylor will always sell above the country artists. A singer like Miranda, she may sell but not as well. She's still selling though, but now she has no chance in her life to get another #1 hit. Which is an ashamed because she's one of the biggest country stars right now and Over You was a huge hit.

the formula seems logical, but when they put it in reality, it's a ****ing mess
If they decide to do it, they should specify carefully which song is country, which song is not

No. You'll buy it or download it somewhere else and make sure you have a copy so you can play it anytime. That's how you like a song. And how sure are you that every song a DJ play is requested by someone? Some stans even request daily for a song on all the country radios in the country just to make it chart.

Unfortunately I Know You Were Trouble will probably be number one next week. WHICH IT DOESNT DESERVE AT ALL. However, due to this formula.. it'll spend a week at one.

I don't get your argument
If really those people are requesting it more than other songs, then they should buy the song too
And are you really saying that radio only plays songs when people request them? They play the songs normally based on who release them, and what about payola and radio deals?
WANEGBT debuted at #13 on HCS because of a radio deal, is that fair?

Over You was terrible. Her early works have not been recognized by country radio and it doesn't seem to bother you.
THTBM was her biggest hit.

But the ones buying songs on itunes are mostly teens and under 30. And a huge number of country audience are over 30s people. They listen to country songs on radio, when they're working or they're driving.
Bold: deal won't last long, Never Ever's chart run itself explain it. And spins is just a thing, the thing that matters for Hot country songs (before) is AI point, and you can't buy the audience

Over You was terrible, yet your defending Taylor's songs right now.
Her early work wasn't recognized I know, and when she had her first hit with Kerosene I was ecstatic. But I knew she wasn't getitng the amount of airplay she needed to go #1.
Hell, When Jesus Take the Wheel was released I didn't even think it'd go Top 10 but it did, because it had strong radio airplay.

I agree. Billboard should do something about it.
I have always been a fan of HCS but even then I knew that basing the charts on airplay alone was not right and unfair. But this all-genre AI thing is just a mess.

I sensed a shade.
I'm not defending the song, I'm just defending the incorporation of the sales. That's all.
I love me some Miranda tbh but Over You was just.

the fact that taylor will sell more than everyone else, doesnt make the chart irrelevant .. hot country songs .. if a taylor's country song is doing well digitally pllus getting the country airplay then its HOT! so it deserves the #1 !!
the only problem with these charts!! THE ONLY PROBLEM.. is inclusion of the airplay from other genre mediabases.. thats the only thing thats not fair, everything else is legit tbh..

so you're saying that the interest of those below 30 doesnt matter?
those above 30 listen to radio, cool! and those under 30 buy it on itunes .. so if we include both ales and radio AI, then imo it would reflect the wholesome performance of the song!

so you said those under 30 don't listen to radio???
and those above 30 is the main audience of country tbh. so the digital downloads do not fully reflect at all, and not to say most of those under 30 buy songs cuz they heard it on other formats (when the song is remixed to other genres)
I don't want to argue anymore cuz anyone has their own right
But just by looking at the result right now, we know the new rule is messy and need to be fixed again

I don't see how this isn't fair. If a country song crosses over into other formats, that means it is more popular than a song that didn't. For example, Need You Now was the second most succesful song of 2010 because it crossed over to pop radio. It wasn't just successful among typical country fans, it was the second most popular song of the year.
A genre chart shouldn't appeal to a specific group of people, it should appeal to all people. With this new formula and these new charts, country songs that cross over to a wider audience (such as Taylor's songs, which are still somewhat country-influenced) can be recognized as more successful.
So sure, country artists can still make music that appeal to only a specific group of people...but when one of their songs gains more recognition from a wider audience, it would chart better on the Country Songs chart. Also, people act like chart positions are all that important anyway. It's about longevity.
That's just my opinion.
