Don't you think they have other interests? Of course they're not stupid but they're heads of the government, they want certain things to be kept secret. They don't want anyone knowing they torture and murder hundreds of thousands a year in the name of "justice" and "protecting Americans". They don't want anyone knowing that the US government is really designed to take care of corporations, not the people.

He exposed US government secrets. Governments have secrets for a reason. To protect the population! If you're interested in finding out all the dirty little secrets then run for office or get a position in the FBI or something. What he did was expose information that was not for public consumption. I can't believe people don't understand that.

So the American government and military should be allowed to murder innocent people in the name of protecting Americans (because American lives are more valuable than any others, correct?) without anyone finding out and with no repercussions. Right, got you. Makes sense to me.

But we've known this for ages, without the need of Assange. There are other ways of finding out this information without breaking national security from different countries. Although I, at heart, agree with what Assange believes in it was still a crime. There's no way to spin it.

I'm pretty sure murdering innocent people is worse than telling the truth.

I'm in two minds about this.
Do I and the world really want to know everything that the government has not been telling us, or would I rather that the information was kept contained because the outcome of the world knowing such information could be catastrophic.

listen I understand they're not perfect. However, each country has its own citizens at heart. I might sound like a complete ass BUT if I had to choose, not that I would ever want to, between 10 americans dying or 10 people from any other country, I would pick the americans to live. And I assume, and honestly hope, that anyone from another country would do the same for their own people.

It's a conflict of interest...obviously they are part of the US government (huge parts, I might add) so they would never support someone leaking classified US information.

It's only a crime because it was against America, and America is top dog. Winners write history. If he had revealed information about Iran's nuclear program or something he'd be hailed as a hero in America.

Assange doesn't represent freedom; he represents war.
I'd love to be living in this pipe-dream in which Wikileaks' leaks don't contribute to foreign escalations, especially in a world that's already on the brink of war.
And I'm sick of the mass-generalizations of those of us that don't support Assange like a ****ing messiah. It's inexcusable and shows ignorance at its' finest.

It all depends on how you look at things. I, for one, don't consider him a terrorist. The US government is incredibly corrupt, just like any other government. It's our job to question the government, not mindlessly agree with everything they do. Although I do agree that his ethics are a little questionable, there are worse people in the world. The backlash of Gaga meeting with Assange will be minimal, if anything.

I think of it this way. What is the realistic benefit of me, or anyone, knowing all the dirty little secrets of the government? Will I rise up, overthrow them and put in a more just government? Personally I will not. However, the benefit of keeping government secrets under wraps are beyond what we can all imagine. They are reasons in the first place for a reason.

But if you're upset about the bias you can't start showing bias yourself. He didn't just release secrets from America, he revealed the dirty laundry of almost every (relevant) country in the world. When you play snitch you're gonna get burned, that's how it is.

See, the thing is that choice did not have to exist in the first place. No one had to die but America has meddled with other countries' affairs for decades. And even then, bombing a village where 50 civilians, children included, are killed because the CIA thought some extremists who might kill US troops who have INVADED another country because oil corporations who control the government need new reserves is NOT protecting anyone or justifiable in ANY way.
