The original poster who coined the term in reference to pop stars already explained it:
The "Holy/Untouchable" Trinity: MJ, Madonna, Prince
The Vocal Trinity: Whitney, Mariah, Celine
Today's Trinity: Britney, Beyoncé, Gaga
See? Janet is nowhere to be found. Take a hint from Eli (or me with Kylie) and just STOP.

I will always stand by my opinion and I'm not afraid to share it. Stop telling me what to do, I won't listen to you.
Take a hint from everybody else and ignore if you don't agree.

The truth is on the streets.... the only ones who find Britney Spears musically relevant in 2011 are Britney stans.

The real trinity is Esperanza, Florence and Adele.

You're in serious need of a reality check.

''Trinity'' ? What the **** is that ? I had never heard about it until i became ATRL member
There is no trinity for me. So i didn't even vote in this poll. And if we are talking who will be more successful in the future, i think that Katy will have more success, but still she'll never pass Brit or be better than her.

This kind of comments were "acceptable" back in 2007 but not now. She's proven that she's here to stay.

Prince is not part of the untouchable trinity. He's just an R&B/funk legend/genius who went overboard and started making ****** music in the 2000s. His relevance in pop music was too short-lived to merit an inclusion with Madonna and MJ. They're just a duo, the King and Queen.
I have Lotusflower, so not too much now.

Staying isn't exactly the word I'd use to desribe HIAM's chart run.

I mean, we're talking about pop music. Prince has 1999 and Purple Rain. 1 song each from Around the World & Parade. That's it.
MJ has Off the Wall (R&B, whatevs), Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory.
Madonna has everything from Like a Virgin to Music, and COADF too.

A critical smash... a commercial flop.
"If I Was Your Girlfriend" is my favorite Prince song, but it takes more than musical excellence to be called a part of the trinity. Obviously he's on another level from Madonna and MJ, musically. But he's not as iconic as they are and he's certainly not very relevant for today's young people, as they are.
