Intel and Microsoft Windows rely heavily on branding and convincing customers that if they don't see an Intel Inside logo and a Windows logo on a computer/laptop, they shouldn't buy it. That's where the term Wintel comes from.
Only Google's Android can compete that with the Android OS that can be modified/used by anyone powered by ARM processor cores that can be made by any manufacturer.
For real competition driving the prices down and encouraging innovations, it's necessary that customers are buying multiple brands instead of only Intel and Windows because those are the only 2 brands they know.
