You're not getting that there are buying trends with populations. The people taking advantage of the Samsung offer are either 1) legit fans of Rihanna who wanted the album asap and would've dl'ed it legal or not and 2) people who wouldn't have wanted to pay for it. Tidal has a small audience and nobody in the typical music buying population would've been aware of the deal. Middle-American music buyers are not Twitter or ATRL, they acquire music the way they always have. What Samsung/Tidal tried to do was get people who take advantage of streaming/illegal downloads and try to be one step ahead, but it still didn't make a difference for most other people.
Also, millions of people illegally download music, so to say that the people who downloaded it through this deal would've otherwise purchased the music is so unrealistic.
