Some people might find any religious affiliation, even agnosticism, arrogant. They'd be justified too given the history. Assuming atheists are inherently immoral is unfair, as there are plenty of religious people who have hurt others, yet still pledge loyalty (even if they are shunned). Ever have people say they're doing you a favor, and you need it, even though you didn't ask for it? Who decided there had to be a higher, conscious power out there?
Who decided Jesus' murder had to play that much of a role in everybody's lives? He wasn't the only one who died for what he believes in, nor the only one who died for moral. It's certainly inspirational, I'll give it that much. It should encourage people to do better. But in this world it's survival of the fittest. Atheists know that, as it is fact.
Atheists believe in the tangible, proven higher power, mother nature. I believe there's more out there. But people aren't obligated to believe that, like they are obligated to know that if you hit your head it will hurt. Atheists also question why sin exists and why the 'all powerful one' created it? Some may feel they are being toyed with and dislike it. Some people take pride in doing for themselves and not attributing their hard work to some higher power, as if they were just a puppet.
It's not that arrogant to reject religion. Just because you're born into a 'family' doesn't mean it's a perfect fit for you. If your heart isn't in religion that's just what it is. People who criticize atheists don't understand this, but it's the same passion that makes them loyal to religion. Your 'parent' should love you regardless of what path you take. But if not then find a way out.
