What if she sold 650k in her first week, and 650k in her second week? That would be a 0% and she would end up with the same sales as now. 2nd week sales are not that big of a deal, especially when she already outsold / about to outsell your faves' pop albums in one ****ing week.
Plus, some people seem to forget that we're in 2011 .

People are so mad because of Gaga but in the end she will still have one of the biggest albums of the year.
oh, and btw: I think that Britney will go Platinum. FF rocks and if they plan IWG and possible future singles right they will make it.

Luckily people will say Gaga opened with 1.1M, not Gaga opened with 1.1M and sold 200k the next week. Second week sales are never mentioned outside the online forum world...

I don't see why people are so surprised by Gaga's drop.
About a third of her sales were less than the cost of a single. Of course she's gonna have extremely front loaded first week sales, and a huge drop second week.

And luckily, in the future, few years from now, they will mention her opening with 1,1M without even talking about that Amazon thing. It will be remembered as a 1,1M opener, that's all. Sorry for all those obsessed with that.
BTW has many more singles to come, I'm not worried at all for its sales. She proved that she's a long-term seller with her 2 past albums.

But to be fair Em's album was mostly pop but with rap verses.
But I agree that what chris101 meant was albums by a pop singer.

All people bitching at Gaga's second week sales, for a fair comparison, let's calculate the second week drop ignoring the Amazon sales:
1,108,000 copies sold first week
440,000 came from the amazon deal
668,000 non-amazon copies.
If she sells 180k this week she'll have dropped by %73 (and %70 if she sells 200k) which is pretty much the industry standard. She might be doing worse than people have expected overall but this looks like a quite strong/natural hold compared to its debut week. I too think sales will be heavily frontloaded and the album won't have legs or as much commercial succes as The Fame; but it's doing more than fine for now, slaying our faves like it's 2000.

Hell, even if the album won't have legs and die out at 1,5 million in the US (dream on!!!!) that would make it just as big as the albums from her peers.

200k is great 2nd week sales, why do you guys look at percentages? I mean even if the album opened with 10m and then decreased to 1m you would see the 90% drop and call it a flop come on
