I ranked LFN relatively higher for its production and melody alone. The "do it all again" part is really nice, too.

And I also agree with Pitchfork ("transcendent") and the rest of the critics in regards to "Birthday." If you dislike it, you either must be really miserable, or so shallow that the video "ruined it" for you.

I'm pretty sure "LL" featuring Drake will never see the light of day.

Haha, this. Birthday is so brilliant. A lot of critics loved it though.

There is perhaps no greater achievement since the 120 BPM kick drum became the musical Esperanto for “party time” in the last decade than “Birthday.” It’s a Prince-flavored gem of synthy-swing-disco that is the most efficient use of Perry’s carefree lyricism since “Last Friday Night.” There is absolutely no way we won’t be hearing this song less than we’ve heard “Blurred Lines” and “Get Lucky” combined — it’s all champagne-popping samples and barely naughty taunts. The chorus is… well, it’s ****ing perfect Katy Perry.

Birthday's probably the second song (after Teenage Dream) that I'd recommend to someone who has never heard of Katy before and wants to know what it is she's about. It's like, thé classic Katy Perry song. It's why I was so shocked it flopped and why I think she should branch out a bit with producers - if Birthday can do badly that is not a good sign for the Katy/Luke pairing.

Maybe one day it will come to light. I think something similar happened to Britney, but not for such a petty reason.

I absolutely agree. It's my favorite track off PRISM, and it's great at the gym. I'm shocked at the sales, but even so....it would've totally made the Top 10 of the Hot 100 if the video were shorter. And/or different altogether.

Even if it isn't a single, I would still want one or two tracks like that on the next album.
