In light of the upcoming BET Awards, I want to delve into the reputation the network has (at least on here).
It was created by and for Black people.
It's an established network with staple television shows and solid programming.
It
does provide decent coverage of important topics, especially those relevant in the Black community.
There's nothing really wrong with its award show, which is no more or less prestigious than any other award show.
It doesn't showcase misbehaved, violent, promiscuous, and immoral young Black American 20-somethings acting a fool anymore than MTV did misbehaved, violent, promiscuous, and immoral young Italian-American 20-somethings acting a fool.
Why is it considered "ratchet", "bootleg" and "not as reputable as _____"?
