Something I will say about BTW era is that people don't give Gaga enough credit for surviving/avoiding a massive sophomore slump, with her 2nd FULL release.
Especially coming off of two BLOCKBUSTER eras, it's nearly impossible for an artist to manage such momentum and hype. She was able to remain a sizable star across most of Europe/Australia/Latin America/North America, while really breaking out BIG TIME in Asia + Adult radio in US for the very first time.
Sure, we all want more sales for his singles etc., but she's still an established cultural icon and that's hell of a lot better than fading off into irrelevance. Which, even though stans would deny it, is always a concern for a star that rises so quickly. The fall can be just as quick, and Gaga was able to fight against that for the time being.

But I'm sorry - BTW was drowned out by many other moments in music this year. Several of them. Even Jo was out shined by Beyonce's baby reveal. Gaga dominated in an entirely different way that didn't really highlight her music, just her presence (which she has more of than the people who dominated musically). Not to mention, if Gaga's next album is bigger and better - BTW will be squished between two titans - only furthering its depletion from the public. But it doesn't really matter to me. I love this album, iconic or no. But nothing on here comes close to cultural movements of Poker Face or Bad Romance, hell, not even Just Dance. The closest will unfortunately go down as a Madonna knock off.
That's just the way it is, fellow hookers.

Born This Way the song is going to be remembered regardless of whether you and every other monster hates it and whether or not everyone in the world pretends to hate it or acts like it sounds like Express Yourself or complains about it in some other fashion simply because it was one of the biggest song releases in music history.
It's unfortunate that no one will have that power again for years or even decades to come, but I'm glad that's the song she released under that pressure. I don't care if this era has destroyed her career because that song was worth it.

That's quite a statement. The anticipation was indescribable. If I could go back to January and live that month over again.

I love the song, and it will probably be remembered in the long run [like I said]. The song had a great start and set a record as well. The skeleton look seemed to be very popular as well. It's hard to say now. We can already tell how PF and BR are going to go down, but BTW...time will tell. So far, it could go 50/50. If people do remember it, I don't think it will be for good reasons

I agree.
I hope no one is letting the people claiming BTW is a flop era get to them. They are delusional & that's not even an exaggeration.

They probably won't. If it's ever remembered for good reasons, it'll be years or decades from now when people remember that the song is actually quite amazing. But that's the penalty for being at where Gaga was at the time. She was absolutely, undeniably the biggest star in the world in a way that is hard to even comprehend. The pressure for the lead single from Born This Way was larger than any expectations I've ever seen for any artist and no one could have pleased everyone under those circumstances.
No one cares to remember that it shattered sales records and airplay records and was the most anticipated music release of the past twenty years or that it received unanimously positive reviews immediately upon release because the backlash began so quickly and took center-stage. Everyone wanted her to fail, and they are certainly going a long way towards making that happen nowadays, but that single blew the doors of success down.

Despite my dislike of the title track, it will be remembered. Probably the only remembered single of the era.
HOWEVER, Scheiße needs to be the next single, & also the final one. She is foolish if she really thinks releasing American is a good idea. Scheiße will either flop or it could be a surprise hit. It's very easy to dance to, even if not all of the lyrics are understandable. Maybe that's Marry the Night's problem. It's difficult to dance to. I'm shocked at how bad it's doing because I expected it to be a huge hit.

This. The era was not a flop, just a lot of missteps...but overall...reach 2m in the US and over 5m WW is impressive for someone who has yet to release a slew of radio hits.

The "it" girl is always given different standards to live up to versus the other stars.
It gets kind of annoying, even now.

It's surging across Europe airplay wise, so I'm still not writing it off in the US until after NYE if nothing turns around.

Let's not pretend Gaga was in the same position that an "It Girl" like Adele is now in, though. It's not as if Adele is going to release a single that causes any type of major backlash, regardless of the content or sound.

Absolutely.
I've said before that no matter what Gaga came up with, the album was doomed due to the expectations. The fact that she's still able to get any kind of support is nothing short of amazing. So many people were disappointed by the song, by the album. Like, had she done something 'commercial' it would have made her a 1 trick pony. What she did do has made her a, "try hard pretentious bitch that can't take criticism. (or something of the sort)."
I'm absolutely certain her next era is going to be much more successful.
