40 | COLDPLAY F/ RIHANNA
"Princess Of China" |
WRITE-UP:
One of the interesting collaboration of the year would have to be from Coldplay and Rihanna. This song was already getting chart action before the music video was ever released. It may not have a proper timing for that because if it did I would probably like this a lot more and it will eventually rank a bit higher. I only like a number of Coldplay singles and Princess Of china is one example. Another obvious reason why I like it is because of Rihanna. Chris Martin and Rihanna's vocals, together with some Asian flavor to the tune, all fit well to make this unique. I find myself appreciating this song that much that especially with the fitting music video as we see Rihanna portraying a multi-armed goddess then having a sword-fight with Chris Martin in one of the scenes. Truly, Coldplay manage to capture my attention again this time with Princess Of China. Let's see if they can release more critically acclaimed singles in the future.

39 | TAYLOR SWIFT F/ THE CIVIL WARS
"Safe & Sound" |
WRITE-UP:
This is a different Taylor Swift song I've heard among all her previous releases. Surely, Taylor provided us with a number of fun, upbeat and mellow tune but this is the first time she released something more serious and a bit haunting. With the release of Safe & Sound, I was a bit interested on what to expect on The Hunger Games. I was impressed when I finally got to see that movie and going back to that time, this song was probably in my head for about a week or two. The music video, which also features The Civil Wars, is set up in a forest and a cemetery as we see Taylor Swift walking barefoot all throughout. It really fits the emotion of the track. Safe & Sound also reached the top spot in my weekly countdown, which is good enough to rank as high as #39. Expect one more Taylor Swift song in the list in the later updates.

38 | CHRIS BROWN
"Don't Wake Me Up" |
WRITE-UP:
Chris Brown is here once again in my 2012 list, his first entry is the irresisible track for Don't Wake Me Up. It easily got my attention with the opening line "Dearly beloved, if this love only exists in my dreams, don't wake me up". Don't Wake Me Up talks about a lost loved one who exists only in a dream. Chris Brown clearly states the message of that song. I like its electronic production plus Chris Brown's auto tuned voice somehow worked with this track. This song is just one of the few standouts from Fortune. Chris Brown definitely provided another hit under his belt with this song. It may have peaked inside the top 10 for once but its also gained success on all the other charts. One more single from Brown that made it to my list, stay tune to see that in the next sets.
2009: LADY GAGA "LoveGame"
2010: SEAN KINGSTON F/ JUSTIN BIEBER "Eenie Meenie"

WRITE-UP:
Crash Your Party did not really work for me. When engaged couple Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan aka Karmin finally released Brokenhearted, I really did not give it a chance at all. When I first heard this, it's really like a Ke$ha-ripped track. Ignoring that comparison, I find myself being mesmerized by this track as days pass by. Having this song being played on the radios help even more for me to like this so much. I simply cannot resist its catchiness especially with that singable chorus. Though a bit upbeat, Brokenhearted tells how Amy is fed up waiting all day for his guy to call him. Amy did an amazing job with the vocals especially with that hook-up line "C'mon, that's right cheerio". Karmin successfully captured my taste of music this year. Brokenhearted is one of my favorite jams of the year and I expect to hear more songs like this one for this year.
