The lowdown:ARTPOP features two tracks that explore the fashion industry in complementary yet opposing ways. The first is “Donatella,” an insider’s take that campily celebrates being blonde, skinny, rich and “a little bit of a bitch.” Over pounding synths, Gaga recounts the lavish lifestyle of a stereotypical supermodel—couture shopping sprees, international jet-setting and casual anorexia. It’s as glossy, shallow and fun as your average Vogue cover.
ATRL says...: Voters were divided between those who appreciated the camp and those who found it cringeworthy. "'Tailor these clothes to fit your guilt. What's your size?' is the best one-liner on the entire album," JakeKills wrote. Himeros thought it was "weirdly hilarious...a glamourous ode to her bestie that works as a satire about the fashion world." But J. YONCÉ was not impressed. "Panders to twinks way too hard," he said. "And I legitimately cannot understand a word she's saying in the chorus." Dark Miracles thought it was "headache-inducing" and "a load of noise." bluth simply wondered, "Why?"
Best bit: Gaga's euphoric delivery of the lyric "'Cause she walks so bad, like it feels so good/Listen to her radiate her magic"
Well it made it farther than I expected. Campy goodness! Spiritual was the best song on Katy's 2nd half, and that Britney song was pretty uninteresting.
Im still not sure if the lyrics of Donatella are meant to be taken seriously or sarcastically
They are so cringeworthy that I can't believe she's serious but she's singing them with so much conviction
