Choose The Album, Then a Song 7: The Judges Rates!
Welcome to the seventh season of ATRL original game
Choose The Album, Then a Song
Oh WOW!
It has been a while since the last results show, right? I guess so! But I really had to come back. It was unfair to keep this open only one round away from the final, right? So here we are!
Tonight's show will be shorter because the public votes won't be counted (there was only one). The judges will have 100% of power over the contestants and they are back and rougher than ever... Wait until you see it!
This round was all about being being, who was the baddest bitch? Let's find out... But first, I didn't forget the amazing contestant that left in the previous round, give it up guys!
And now... The judges!

Not you dragging this timeless and classic album in the last sentence. The reasons you gave to pick this song as the album's worst track are very generic, you could've been more specific. Even though Mary Jane is one of my least favorites on the album, I disagree with what you said, I don't think it's a bad song. I probably would've chosen Wake Up for this challenge.
2. Luigi - Shakira - Shakira.: La La La (Brazil 2014) - 3/10
It's a blaspheme to say anything bad about this song, it's definitely one of the standouts of the album, and the addition of the drums in this version makes it even better. There's a reason why people all over the world considered it the true theme song for the World Cup, and that's because it's GREAT!
3. Capital B - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Rescue Him - 10/10
I love that you always go into every detail to explain your thoughts, great essay! This song is a mess indeed, it changed it's course at least 3 times during those 5+ minutes, it was a torture to finish it!
4. Pedro - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: You - 5/10
I get what you saying about the similarities between You and What About, even though I agree What About is superior, I don't think You is that far from it, it's still a really good song. I'm not fully convinced you made the right choice here, I think you should've picked another song.

You definitely explained why you disliked the song and what makes it bad to you. My biggest issue with your essay is that I wanted more depth to your album critique. It's very short and to the point but it would have helped to explain and flesh it out more. You could've been meaner.
6/10
2. Luigi - Shakira
You nailed why the song is the weakest on the album. You really explained yourself well. I'm also glad you expanded it into your overall album critique well too. It was bitchy but not necessarily mean.
8/10
3. Capital B - The Golden Echo
This is exactly what I was looking for. You tore the song and the album to pieces. It's very convincing and I can really see you took a lot of time to think about why your competitor's album is inferior.
10/10
4. Pedro - The Velvet Rope
I'm so sorry Pedro but this fell so flat for me. You were too nice and you didn't explain why the song or album aren't very good well enough. You should have spent more time dissing the song and making sure you were not nice to give the judges the best possible reason to block out your competitor from the top 3.
2/10

I think your song choice was pretty solid for this round, as the track was bland for me. Unfortunately, it looks like your essay was rushed, and you touched on generic bullet points without going in very deeply. 7/10
2. Luigi - Shakira - Shakira.: La La La (Brazil 2014)
I personally enjoy this song, and think there are weaker choices. However, I think your reasoning is actually very solid. You had in-depth support for your claims, and you sold it to me overall. 9/10
3. Capital B - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Rescue Him
This song was painful to listen to, honestly. It never ended! So, perfect choice. This is my favorite essay of the round, as you really touched upon how the album AND song have weak points, and how everything ties together poorly. Your point of view was unique and smart. Great job! 10/10
4. Pedro - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: You
A very odd track, I mostly agree with your choice of "You" for this round, and I really like the comparison that you made to another track. This song indeed does fall flat when compared to some other strong songs on the album. My only critique is that your reasoning for this SPECIFIC song's weak points seemed a bit rushed. 9/10

Geniusly using a song named Rescue Him while battling your opponent - a hint that he may need saving in the end after all since you are bringing him down. While Penk promoted The Golden Echo as this umbrella of different genres and sounds, you reveal how as a whole, the album may not work as it fails to be cohesive and to go deep into the experimentation aspect. You balanced the arguments for the song and the album, stabbing them back and forth, making the reader feel as if The Golden Echo may in fact not worth the coins. With this approach, it seems like you not only shot Kimbra down, but you also turned Penk's strength into a weakness - all while staying eloquent and classy. |
| Luigi - Shakira - Shakira.: La La La (Brazil 2014)
I didn't agree with a lot of the claims you made, but I didn't deduct points for that because you managed to break down some points to explain why you think it's a bad song. As much as I tried to be objective, there is one statement that I think is factually incorrect. You stated that it is a departure from her 'rock' sound, but she has truly not departed from anything. She has always been diverse in her sound throughout her albums, and if anything, she just embraced another one to put in her catalog. Aside from that, I think that you gave some pretty good reasons as to why you think that the album doesn't deserve a place in the finale. |
| Pedro - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: You
The whole essay felt very bittersweet in the sense that you did not go completely in to bash the song or the album. You stated that her vocals were annoying on You because of its laziness, but then low-key complimented the instrumentals. I appreciate the fact that you compared it to What About to show that you were not bias in your choice, but even by doing so, you were selling What About as a great track that the album has to offer. You also did not give a reason as to why the album doesn't deserve a place in the finale. In fact, your very first lines were about how the album was 'great' and 'very unique', how the song 'is not even that bad' and how you had a hard time picking a bad song. For all the 'bad' things you said, you said a positive thing to counter it. All these are hints that the album is not bad at all, and it goes against what this challenge is about. |
| Penk - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Mary Jane
You threw all these negative terms towards Mary Jane in an attempt to paint it bad, but you never really gave a reason to back your statements. Why is the song 'terrible', 'boring', or 'complicated'? Those claims are too vague to understand why the song is really bad. You stated that the song is 'very long and drags on and on', yet it is not even the longest track on the album. You said that it is 'dated and old', and you claimed that the album 'is similar this way'. If the album has such a similar production, then what makes this track more 'dated and old' to insinuate that it's the worst? Besides, 'complicated' and 'dated and old' are not necessarily a bad characteristic, especially when we take into consideration the themes and the year that Jagged Little Pill was released. You gave more reasons as to why Mary Jane is bad, then you wrote that the album is bad for the same reasons - which for me was not enough as you failed to separate the track from the album. Your essay is more of a drag-fest with general and contradictory statements instead of an in-depth analysis as to why the song is the worst, and why the album doesn't deserve to be in the finale. |

Wow! I was happy to have this game back period, but extra happy to see 10s across the board for my entry!
Sorry Penk to be so harsh with your album, but it's what the round called for!

Wtf why do I have any points at all I was trying to commit a sorta game suicide because I've been slowly trying to leave ATRL, I wrote that entry in like under a minute. I would never send that trash under normal circumstances!
At least Kavish did me right.
