It's Krantz's (the third bestselling authoress of all time

) second book. I read her first book,
Scruples, immediately before this one. I must say that in the two years between their publication dates, her writing style seems to have undergone a much, much-needed overhaul. Whereas
Scruples was entertaining but not cohesive and totally without literary merit, in this second book her author's voice is generally more authoritative and confident. The fare is the same light glamour-money-sex stuff, but the approach is entirely different. Here Krantz is more focused on plotting and character development, rather than the anecdotal insider stuff and braggy name-dropping present in
Scruples. However, she does sometimes suffer from allowing herself to
tell readers about what's happening or what has happened, rather than
show them. The book is still immensely readable and enjoyable, though.
