I think that's because of her cadence (in both instances). But yeah...there are only so many keys that work in pop song. When Katy and Bonnie work together, they almost always use four chord minor basic chord progression.

Her tracks with just Max, Greg (and the other Greg), Sarah and Luke, Tricky, Ballard, etc. are very different.
