Choose The Album, Then a Song 7: VOTE! [R12]
Welcome to the seventh season of ATRL original game
Choose The Album, Then a Song
Welcome to the twelfth round!
Oh... My... God! We are BACK! Can you believe it? After a SIX months break, we are back on track to finish the game! I hope you all took some time to breathe and are ready to keep the slaying because some surprises are reserved.
We stopped the game in the 'MEAN' round. Looks like I don't want people to be mean... Well, I do and I am ready to share with you the entries that everyone sent. Are you ready?

For six seasons this game had its ups and downs and to make sure the 'downs' part won't happen again, I had to create a set of rules. So if you're signing up, this means you agree to:
1. DURING THE VOTING PERIOD, YOU'LL HAVE TO CAST YOUR VOTE (OTHERWISE YOU'RE PENALIZED);
2. YOU CAN NOT ASK FANS/FRIENDS TO SAVE YOUR ALBUM;
3. THE JUDGES HAVE TO BE FAIR. IF YOU DETECT BIASNESS OR UNFAIRNESS, LET ME KNOW.

1. Penk - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Mary Jane

The song Mary Jane is bad for many reasons. First of all, it is a terrible song. It is very long and just drags on and on until your head hurts. Second of all, it is very boring. Listening to it you will lose interest very fast. Also, it is too complicated. The lyrics are confusing and too complicated for the average person. It feels like a filler song. Lastly, the production is dated and old, and makes a very uninteresting listen. This album is similar this way with the only real highlights being the singles, and that's why it shouldn't be in the finale.

2. Luigi - Shakira - Shakira.: La La La (Brazil 2014)

For this round, I chose La La La (Brazil). Firstly, I believe the song feels dated. The electronic production of the song along with its irritating breakdown hasn't helped the song age well. The song is a departure from Shakira's signature rock sound, and maybe it's just in this specific song, but I feel like this sound doesn't fit her well. Her vocal delivery in this specific song lacks the passion she presents in other fellow upbeat tracks, and as a result, she sounds disconnected from the song. She feels out of place, especially in the verses, and the monotonous and repetitive chorus doesn't help. Another criticism I have for the song is how the chorus is basically the word "la" repeated many times, which screams lazy songwriting to me. Finally, one of the differences between this song and the original Dare is the addition of the drums, and while some people may find the addition pleasing, I personally feel that the drums just make this song more of a cacophonous mess.
The remaining albums are all great and deserve to be in the finale, but if Shakira's exclusion from it had to be justified, I'd say it'd be because I feel like it doesn't show Shakira's full potential as an artist. I simply feel that the album is one of Shakira's weaker ones with fewer standout tracks. In my opinion, Shakira. doesn't have the energy, grit, or catchiness her previous albums possessed.

3. Capital B - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Rescue Him

Kimbra's "The Golden Echo", while ambitious, simply aims to be too many things all at once - Disco! Hip Hop! Pop! Funk! Alternative! As a result, no one specific genre (or track) ever seems to get enough thought put into it and ends up not always coming across the way they were likely intended. Concepts are never fully realized before bouncing on to the next. Jam packing all these ideas/styles into one single album feels chaotic, rushed, disingenuous and quite frankly, sonically overwhelming. Nowhere is this fact more evident than on the track "Rescue Him". Clocking it at over 5 minutes, the repetitive background music is phrenetic and chugging, but Kimbra's vocals are slow and lack energy. It makes for a confounding, head-scratching mix which isn't enjoyable as a listener. The structure of the song makes little sense, and not even in an interesting way. By a minute in, I had completely lost interest, only finishing the track so I could write about it. It seems as though she's going for the sleek feel of a Prince-esque midtempo, but given that it's placed in the tracklist after the high-energy disco "Miracle", it ends up sounding completely flat and stale, and just re-emphasizes how badly this album (and multi-genre concept) was in need of an editing stage. This non-cohesive album is so much to take in as a listener, I can see how a track as underwhelming and unenjoyable as "Rescue Him" ends up being completely forgettable and buried under the other random mishmash of styles being thrown about. To me, "Rescue Him" fails as an album track, and it perfectly illustrates a major flaw of this album as a whole.
