The lowdown: This pulsing sex bomb is the best of the mindless club bangers that comprise Britney Jean’s disappointing middle stretch. With a hard-hitting synth crescendo, a fierce sexual urgency that’s vintage Britney and a solid guest turn from T.I. (minus that horrifying “beat her/PETA” couplet), it’s a dynamite three minutes. Dampened by the promise of Britney’s most personal record yet™, however, the bang goes off with a bit of a whimper.
ATRL says...: "Who on earth decided to release 'Work Bitch' as lead single when she had this waiting in the wings?" wondered Dark Miracles. "Lord these record companies are deaf." lovesong thought the verses were mediocre, but "that repetitive 'tik tik tik' bit is so undeniably catchy and you've got to appreciate that." August hated it all around. "THIS CHORUS IS A RECURRING FEATURE OF MY NIGHTMARES," he wrote.
Best bit: "You've got a sex siren in your face"—one of the great lines in this rate, to be honest.
