I guess I just had too high expectations.
(I love ARTPOP, btw)

I think we all underestimated how much work needed to be done to repair her brand. Including her.
The silver lining is that now we know, and it'll be interesting to see how she deals with it. Especially with ACT II coming as a perfect opportunity to get things back on track.
I'm personally hoping that ARTPOP acts as a stepping stone to a "proper" comeback, effectively taking the brunt of the negativity and doing the hard bit of following BTW. Ideally she'll soldier through it and achieve respectable success. People are really laying into her right now, but that won't last. They'll get bored and the excessive negativity will turn her into the underdog, who people typically root for. People want to give her a slice of humble pie and knock her off the pedestal they feel she's still on despite their best efforts with BTW. Ultimately I think people want to like Gaga, she's too good a popstar to drop, she just needs to be less abrasive and taken down a few notches from this "NEW INNOVATIVE ARTISTIC QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE" pedestal they think she's on.
Cheek To Cheek will play a part in winning people back, i think.
