Celebrate I might change my avi and evth in a few hours to the Bad Blood video
So will you screenshot it/save it?
Go for it. Only GotSkill has to keep their avi and signature for obvious reasons. I already screenshotted everyone's signature and avi...except GotSkill
1. For the playlist do we just put song names and stuff or explanations as well?
2. For threads will you take post count into consideration? because my most popular thread isn't the one I like the best
2. For threads will you take post count into consideration? because my most popular thread isn't the one I like the best
Its more about the type of posts that have discussion around the artist your stanning for. In a thread for example like "Why is Legend X as big as Britney", surely posts will come up talking about Legend X's music, impact. That's the goal of the thread, to get people talking about the artists at hand, not just a "Who's hotter: Rihanna or Beyonce" where its just posts about "Rihanna>>>"
For this challenge, you will be given a new favorite artist! For the duration of the challenge, you are to become a stan of this artist. Now with this challenge you'll need to show off to ATRL how you have become a stan of these artists BASED ONLY OFF OF THEIR FIRST TWO STUDIO ALBUM RELEASES: 1. Change your AVI:
as the centerpiece of most profiles, the avi is essential in showing off your favorite song/clip of your new favorite artist. 2. Signature
We need to know they are your #1 artist by being present here, as your signature tends to act a reflection of your actual music taste. 3. Playlist
Based off of the artist first two album releases, you need to give a playlist containing the following:
Details
A) your new fave’s best single* (can be from any album for this one only)
B) best album track (from the 2 albums)
C) worst song (from the 2 albums)
D) best music video (from the two albums
E) their most underrated or overlooked song (from the two albums
F) a song they should cover.
Please PM me your playlists with links to each song. 4. Create a Base discussion thread relating to your artist (PM me a link to your thread)
Inspired by a challenge given in ATRL Elite, I would simply like to see you, as host of this thread, show interest and get other members interested in your artist.
The amount of pages doesn't matter, but I do want to at least see two or three posts of you and other members discussing a topic you make a thread about.
So I took the liberty of posting your signature and avi
Bloomers Entry
Artist: Chris Brown
Chris Brown
1) Avi Swap
I chose this avi because it's from my favorite Chris Brown song, Look At Me Now! The song that made me come around on Chris as a musician.
2) Signature
For my signature, conveniently screenshooted above, I went with a reference to one of my favorite Chris Brown songs: Turn Up The Music and also use that song title to call attention to the fact that he is the king of urban pop. I have also conveniently linked all his (incredible and boundary-pushing albums) to iTunes in case anyone wishes to make an impulse purchase inspired by my profile. Furthermore, I have linked "my" last.fm, a stan's last.fm profile that features some impressive plays for C. Breezy in addition to my most recent YTT update featuring none other than the King of Urban Pop himself.
A) I choose an Take You Down, off Exclusive, as my favorite single from Chris Brown's first two albums. It's not a dance&B song like Run It! and it wasn't a huge hit, but it's the song that caught my ears. It's a slow jam, in the Bump-n-Grind style. It's so smooth and has this really nice build to it and that electric guitar makes the song white hot!
B) What's My Name (feat. Noah) is an R&B jam off Chris Brown's self-titled album. It's hard to believe that the song wasn't a single as it has that slinky and silky smooth R&B feel and flow that so many of the chart toppers of the early to mid 2000s had. As an added bonus, Noah introduces Chris as the prince of R&B.
C) Poppin' off of the debut album isn't outright bad exactly, it has a nice beat to it and none of the songs off both Chris's first albumes were offensively bad. Poppin' however, screams filler, just based off the name alone. It's relatively one note, it doesn't go beyond Chris singing the title phrase in an annoying way, and pretty annoying.
D) Gimme Dat from Chris's debut era is electric! It showcases some great dancing and has a retro cool feel - taking place during a dream sequence centered around a train station.
E) As a now esteemed Chris Brownologist I can now say that Chris's most overlooked song off his two albums is Hold Up. I'm a huge fan of Big Boi to begin with and he is criminally overlooked himself. Furthermore, Hold Up is a monster, it has a great beat and a perfect throwback mid-2000s R&B sound.
F) Chris should absolutely officially cover 1,2 Step at some point. Not only did Jazzy Pha produce a couple tracks off of Chris's albums, so he definitely would mesh well with the production and sound of 1,2 Step,. Chris can also handle a rap verse, as he did on Look At Me Now! and he would be able to handle Missy's rap. Also, Chris is one of the few performers who could go toe-to-toe with Ciara's dancing and make it all seem natural, if he were to make a video or do live performances to go along with his cover,

Just to clear up Bey_RihStan withdrew from the competition. GotSkill was given 24 hours to complete an entry to be submitted. GotSkill did get their entry in on time

A) your new fave’s best single* (can be from any album for this one only) If I Lose Myself B) best album track (from the 2 albums) Fear
the strings add a sense of urgency. It almost feels like an old Coldplay song. C) worst song (from the 2 albums) Missing Persons 1 & 2
It's just too long and boring and there's some bad experimentation in the production in the middle. Ryan's voice is also weaker than usual here. D) best music video (from the two albums All The Right Moves
Their most visually interesting video from their first two eras. The dancing adds a nice touch and the cinematography was great. That's why I included it as 1 of 3 rotating avis for the band. E) their most underrated or overlooked song (from the two albums Stop and Stare
It was overshadowed by Apologize, but it's the infinitely better song. Unfortunately it's ignored because it peaked right outside the top 10 at #12. F) a song they should cover. Bleeding Love
This was Ryan's breakthrough hit as a writer and it would be cool to see him return to his roots and sing this smash as his own.
Thread
I tried to discuss the band's longevity and how it's not normal. I even ignored a change to discuss Imagine Dragons when they were brought up . This thread wasn't quite as successful as my one discussing the band's many zaddies though
Citrus Entry

Just the Way You Are
His first solo #1, Just the Way You Are offers the best of Bruno. While empowerment anthems are now considered generic and cliche (thanks Katy/Gaga/P!nk/Vaginas in pop music), Bruno's still sounds fresh today. Considering that it first topped the BB100 almost 5 years ago, that is quite the accomplishment. A song that has been a part of every one of his tours, Just the Way You Are is a favorite of both the hardcore Bruno stan (Bran?) and the casual fans. There is no other single that surpasses it.
If I Knew
When you think of a Bruno Mars ballad, typically When I Was Your Man comes to mind. While it is certainly one of his better songs, If I Knew surpasses it in its cruel simplicity. Just a little over 2 minutes, If I Knew finds Bruno musing over all of the things he has done that directly hurt a girl of his. What augments the pain to full fledged despair is the knowledge that, even with all of his indiscretions and neglect, his old flame would still forgive him if he wanted her back. This song proves that there is no such thing as a pain-free break up, as we find Mr. Mars heartbroken over having to break someone else's heart.
The Lazy Song
While it's very easy to love Bruno Mars (he's like a little Hawaiian marshmallow!), it is incredibly difficult to forgive him for The Lazy Song. I have to give him props for at least titling it according to how it was written, produced, and sung. The video begins with a shaky camera angle that seems to come from the gay porn of Jane Goodall's nightmares. The lyrics are, at best, uninspired, and, at worst, an example of what happens when even the artist knows they're making filler. Also, Bruno says he's going to "...Meet a really nice girl, have some really nice sex." How heternormative. I feel oppressed.
Treasure
As easy as it would have been for Bruno to find a model and shoot a video detailing his efforts to convince her that she's a treasure, the actual Treasure video is much...cheaper. And more 80s. And you know what? It's all the better for it. With this video, Bruno embraces the kitsch and camp and produces a gloriously fun masterpiece that looks like an SNL skit shot on the old sound stage from the Born This Way video. This is definitely a treasure. In that whole "One man's trash is another man's treasure" kind of way. 10/10, Mr. Mars..
Natalie
An awful lot of pop music nowadays is dramatic and hyperbolic, but Bruno's hit-that-never-was Natalie is a whole other ballgame. Follow me, here: This chick named Natalie gets Bruno to fall in love with her and then she steals all of his money, WITHOUT EVEN GETTING MARRIED TO THE GUY. That's damn impressive. However, Bruno is having none of it, spending the song calling out the hussy while "Digging a ditch for this gold-digging bitch." While I hope to God none of you directly relate to this song about murder, I hope you can appreciate the almost-choral hand claps that make it the only tune about a felony I've hummed along to.
Caribbean Queen
Covers are a chance for an artist to both pay homage and flex their own creative muscles. Nothing shows talent like being able to make a song entirely your own. Billy Ocean's Caribbean Queen is definitely funky enough for Bruno to take the reins, and Lord knows what that tanned little pineapple would do with the video. What draws me to this song is that you could stick it on any of his albums and it wouldn't feel out of place. A song like Caribbean Queen sounds utterly perfect for him to score that sixth #1. And it sounds like the title for a Rihanna collab if ever I heard one. Hop to it, Bruno!
REACHOUT PLAYLIST
Artist: Justin Timberlake
First two albums: Justified, FutureSex/LoveSounds
A) your new fave’s best single (can be from any album for this one only)
While my favorite combo (Song+MV) is probably My Love, my favorite single is SexyBack for sure! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gOHvDP_vCs
B) best album track (from the 2 albums)
I’ll go with (Another Song) All Over Again because it is one of his best mid-tempo ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrjdHZ7oIgI
D) best music video (from the two albums)
I’m a bit undecided, in my opinion is between My Love and What Goes Around…Comes Around,
I’ll go with My Love since I love MV with big dance choreographies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjpe7EGyiw8
E) his most underrated or overlooked song (from the two albums) Until The End Of Time is the right choice imo, it was flawless even before the Beyoncé featuring!
It did okay in the USA but did nothing WW and that’s a shame! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h73T-J3XCDE
