Once I knew the basics I was confident I could do decent translations of Tiziano's books and interviews just by using Google translate and a dictionary. After doing that for a while I picked it up automatically. These days I can read Italian pretty well without help, and get the gist of things when listening to it. My written/spoken Italian is still very poor and slow though, I'd have to practice it more. But I don't really have a reason to.
