Okay.... Give it 2 Me, This Used to Be My Playground, and Dress You Up really didn't deserve to get points, but whatever. Fever, American Pie, and La Isla Bonita should have gotten more representations.
Sorry and GMAYL are good but eh, I'm fine with them being basic bitches.

Albeit being very simple - it only features Madonna in front of a white background flanked by two dancers - this video was quite important for creating her Boy-Toy image, which she would maintain throughout most of the 80's. This image was mostly inspired by other artists like David Bowie, Boy George and Cyndi Lauper. After the release of this video, a certain rush started for Madonna's videos: a lot of girls wanted to be like Madonna and dress like Madonna. Maybe this video was more important to her career than you'd think on first glance.
Personally, I don't think much of this video, since it's very simple. I'm glad that more than one person voted for it, though! I think #34 seems about right.
This video was shot in the Summer of 1984 in Venice, Italy. It features Madonna doing all sorts of ****ty moves on a gondola, riding through the beautiful town. A lion was also featured in the video, on which she later commented:
Quote:
The lion didn't do anything he was supposed to do, and I ended up leaning against this pillar with his head in my crotch... I thought he was going to take a bite out of me so I lifted the veil I was wearing and had a stare-down with him and he opened his mouth and let out this huge roar. I got so frightened my heart fell in my shoe. When he finally walked away, the director yelled 'Cut' and I had to take a long breather. But I could really relate to the lion. I feel like in a past life I was a lion or a cat or something.
Family organizations complained after the release of the video and the song that it promoted sex before marriage, and that Madonna portrayed herself as a *****. Outraged moralists condemned her a sex kitten and wanted the video banned from television. They certainly had no idea of what was to come...
Again, a relatively simple video but it had a lot of impact. I think this video was at least top 25 material. It didn't deserve to be this low. Although I must say much bigger shockers will come further along the way...

Sad to see another early 80's video leaving. This one features Madge writhing on a road, singing this song about her lover. The lover in question drives a car, presumably to run her over. He was actually played by her actual then-boyfriend, Ken Compton. By the time this video was released, MTV had just begon to show dance videos, hence this one became a minor hit on the channel.
To be honest with all of you: I won't really be missing this one. I know some people will, though... It's very simple and I think Madonna has much bigger, much more memorable videos. I think the placing is about right, maybe a little too high but I'm not sure.
