So Trump is holding a rally here in Asheville NC on Monday and this is the most liberal/hippie city in NC. People are furious and there is a big protest going on before it starts. I'm gonna be downtown to see it all go down. NC better pull through in November

I heard Trump's VA rallies don't give the desired turnout, I know the sizes of these things don't matter, but just curious, what other states give the Don a frosty reception?

From the 9/11 flashback article:
Clinton’s powerful engagement in the 9/11 health cause makes for a strong contrast with how her presidential rival, Donald Trump, spent his time in the wake of the terrorist attacks. He used a loophole in federal funding to help small businesses hurt by the disaster to claim $150,000 in subsidies for a Wall Street real estate project.
Yet when it comes to this year’s presidential race, several of the people who worked closely with Clinton after 9/11 said they were puzzled by her struggle to win over voters. As a senator operating on the ground, and one to one, she came across as an effective and empathetic leader, they said. Writ large across the nation, her persona struggled to come across.
“She may not be the most natural politician,” said former firefighters union president Peter Gorman. “I regret that sometimes she doesn’t come across well in front of a crowd as people don’t know her as so many of us do.”
While they were growing up all [younger officers] heard was this bad stuff about Clinton – the damage has been done
Alles, the firefighter, put her troubles with popularity in 2016 – she has an unfavorable rating of 55%, according to the RealClearPolitics.com average of polls – down to the criticism she has endured from political opponents and enemies over decades, from Whitewater in the 1990s to Benghazi and the email controversy today. He doubted many of his fellow firefighters would back her in November, as the good work she did after 9/11 has faded from view.
“Younger fire officers aren’t aware of what she did as senator,” he said. “While they were growing up all they heard was this bad stuff about Clinton – the damage has been done.”

Hillary. It doesn't matter if she's right, you don't ever insult voters. And unfortunately, most journalists are white, and are thus more concerned with Hillary calling people racist than actual racism. She's lucky this came on a Saturday and before NFL kickoff weekend and 9/11.

But this is also my opinion. The deplorables were never going to vote Hillary. Now that she's in the news cycle for once, she can spotlight Trump's alt-right support and make those suburban white women feel guilty, because that's the only demographic this comment has a chance to offend and actually cost votes.

The election? 95% chance. NC? 75%.

Again anyone offended 1) aren't voting for her 2) are exactly who she was referring too.
Hillary for once was raw. I wish she was like that more often in public. If anything, it's going to further scare undecided voters from being in association with his campaign.
But it's really not an issue. Like y'all are worried about courting white nationalists. Scary times. Like the user said above, she's not being politically correct as we have been saying we wanted our politicians to be.

I mean, people twisting themselves into knots, defending this obvious gaffe. I'm frustrated because the birther talk, praise of Putin, sexist military comments were taking off and she pulls this
She did it at a fundraiser too. I keep saying it, but she shouldnt be present at more fundraisers than rallies 60 days to election day just feeding into coruuption narrative
The poll numbers next week won't be good. I hope I'm wrong though. I honestly think the election will be much much closer than we expect.

I think she should walk back the "half" part (maybe not apologize) and try to move on. Her team should highlight the data that backs it up and surrogates should call out the media on air and tell them to focus on the reality about Trumo supporters. Her team should also link this to birtherism and the fact that Trump refusing to walk back or apologize for his birtherism is so that he doesnt lose support of his racist supporters
Obama should make a joke about birtherism at his rally next (thank God him and Michelle are hitting the campaign trail soon)

At the LGBT event in New York, Clinton urged the crowd to volunteer for her campaign, saying: “If you know anybody who’s even thinking of voting for Trump, stage an intervention.”
She joked: “That may be one conversion therapy I endorse. Just remember: friends don’t let friends vote for Trump.”

Trump's surrogates keep stressing that he's no longer a birther. Well good for them, but when is Trump himself going to say it?

You're so annoying. Like do u ever have anything good to contribute?
And she repeated her very statement in a public interview. TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE DEPLORABLE. Hillary is probably going to repeat herself again next week and I'm loving it.

Jill is demanding a new inquiry for the truth about 9/11, some are calling her a conspiracy theorist and others say it's bad timing:
The families and friends of those who were murdered on 9/11 deserve justice. They also deserve to know the truth. Led by the families of those who died on 9/11, the American people wanted—and deserved—a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the attacks. The Bush administration initially said an inquiry was unnecessary, claiming that the perpetrators had been identified and their methods and motives were clear.
It is well known that the 9/11 Commission produced a report containing so many omissions and distortions that Harper’s Magazine described it as “whitewash as public service”—a document that “defrauds the nation.” The co-chairs of the 9/11 Commission wrote a book just two years after the final commission report, saying, “We were set up to fail.” The 9/11 Commission was not given enough money, time, or access to relevant classified information.
The Stein/Baraka campaign believes a new inquiry is necessary. Under our administration a new inquiry would have access to the considerable body of responsible independent research that has emerged over the last 15 years. We would create an independent 9/11 Commission, not one dominated by members with an interest in protecting the reputation and careers of foreign affairs and intelligence communities.
The US government has finally released the long-classified 28 pages from the 2002 Congressional Report, which have raised many questions about Saudi intelligence as well as other intelligence agencies and their relationship to 9/11. It’s time for a full accounting of what happened, and an end to the misguided post-9/11 wars that are actually making us less safe, not more safe.

Your inability to call her out on anything is annoying. She's a flawed candidate and I'll continue to point that out
Glad others in this thread agree that it was a bit of a gaffe and will get attention she may not want in the media. I clearly illustrated that a pivot is needed and duscussed how her team could pull it off
Not one person has denied Trump's disgusting base. I do care about her WINNING though

Hillary shouldn't have made that comment.
Do I agree with her? Yes - I'd honestly change that number to more, if we wanted to be accurate. But she doesn't need any negative publicity. The media is trying their best to equate the two, pulling out the "they're just as bad as each other!!!!" argument at all times.
So yes, this will be used as a counterpoint to all the times she said that Donald Trump thinks he can win an election by putting down others. Does it score well with her base? Sure. But it's also going to turn off a subset of people who will see this and think "she's calling everyone who disagrees with her a racist." IDGAF about the people supporting Trump who are offended by this - they're mad they're called out. But Hillary's crazy if she thinks this will get her some undecided voters.

Donald Trump’s campaign is demanding an apology for comments Hillary Clinton made at a fundraising event Friday in New York City, where she said half of his supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables” — “the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it.“
The Republican nominee tweeted Saturday morning: "Wow, Hillary Clinton was SO INSULTING to my supporters, millions of amazing, hard working people. I think it will cost her at the Polls!"
“Come to an event; talk to real people who aren't donors,” Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway wrote in a Twitter exchange with Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill earlier Saturday morning. “Or better: have Hillary apologize.”

Agreed, this comment is actually the perfect segue into the birther stuff. Obama will be speaking Tuesday afternoon, just in time for the evening news cycle. At this point I do not think she should walk it back, but as Meh said some white people will absolutely interpret this as "everyone who doesn't support Hillary is racist." The only question is how many.
I think HRC took a calculated risk here...if this leads to a discussion of the racist element of Trump's base, her team will be very happy about that, and those white undecideds will not want to be associated with it. We'll see.

Weak play from Trump, they won't be getting an apology.
