This (mostly in regards to "TIHWD").. It was Katy's decision to change up her sound. She goes with what she's feeling at the moment. She was pretty angsty back then. Perhaps she'll do her acoustic record one day, but I don't see her going all pop-rock again any time soon. After all, when OOTB came out, pop/rock and pop/r&b were the predominant sounds on pop radio. "I KIssed A Girl" is just a variation on Pink's "Cuz I Can." People change. Sounds change. She's a popular artist, and far too established to be looking back to see what worked last time around.
What's interesting to me is that the more adventurous material on Prism is the least introspective (although I do really love "Spiritual" as is, and "By The Grace of God," despite the production). But anyway, that's why I think she should keep taking risks and doing songs like "Dark Horse," "Walking On Air," and "Legendary Lovers."
Maybe that's the first time I agree with something you say.

TIHWD got funny video and it worked awesome even if the song is the pits, Dark Horse deserved something... darker, duh. It's actually one of her biggest mistakes ever because ok, Birthday flopped hard but it will be gone next year, no one will remember. DH is a career-defining song and it will come back all the time with its embarrassing mv.

Whether you guys want to accept or not, Dark Horse is a great video.
For a song that everyone and their mother was expecting for a Floria Sigismondi-directed music video version of the Grammy performance? Definitely not.
Dark Horse is not my fave video, and I do think that they went overboard with the neon colors, but it is a great video, like it or not.
