I don't know much about Janet but it simply isn't easy to maintain relevancy when you fail at adapting to the current sound. And her voice is simply Like Madonna's, doesn't fit to today's airplay.

It could be just a coincidence, though. I have a difficult time believing people would avoid buying music they liked just because of that incident. Maybe she just wasn't able to make music that resonated with contemporary public? It happens a lot with old artists
