Ooh, makes a lot more sense then. So it has sold over 10k in the past year, not too bad!

Slay, Princess of Pop.
She definitely has to have surpassed 200 million overall records.

GH: MP is definitely a better catalogue seller. It charts a lot more!

I've always wondered about her catalogue sales and how they compare to other artists from her generation.

I'm not sure about other artists from her generation, but we can estimate her catalogue sales by comparing Soundscan numbers from different years.
November 2010:
Quote:
...Baby One More Time - 10,554,000
Oops!..I Did It Again - 9,188,000
Britney - 4,339,000
In The Zone - 2,987,000
Circus - 1,662,000
Greatest Hits: My Prerogative - 1,387,000
Blackout - 987,000
The Singles Collection -153,000
B In The Mix: The Remixes - 101,000
|
June 2013:
Quote:
...Baby One More Time - 10,615,000 (+61,000)
Oops!...I Did It Again - 9,212,000 (+24,000)
Britney - 4,375,000 (+36,000)
In The Zone - 3,007,000 (+20,000)
Greatest Hits: My Prerogative - 1,470,000 (+83,000)
Blackout - 1,017,000 (+30,000)
Circus - 1,700,000 (+38,000)
The Singles Collection - 231,000 (+78,000)
B In the Mix: The Remixes - 134,248 (+33,000)
|
So basically: Greatest Hits: My Prerogative > The Singles Collection > ...Baby One More Time > Britney > Circus > B In The Mix > Blackout > Oops!... I Did It Again > In The Zone
Not Britney being a better catalogue seller than OIDIA.
Also, Billboard that reported Britney sold over 883,000 albums in 2011, with only about 705,000 coming from FF, so she sold about 178,000 of her old albums in the USA that year. Not that bad.

Remember when GH:MP randomly returned to the Top 50 on Billboard last year? It sold more in a single week than TSC has in the past year.

Pretty much. Her ringtone/mastertone sales alone should put at over 200M.

In comparison to the other pop gurls from her generation she's okay.
She isn't amazing catalog seller mostly because she has tons of Greatest Hits and she isn't that relevant nowdays.
But I remember when she was announced as a judge on The X-Factor, ...Baby One More Time was selling 1k+ weekly in US.

...Baby One More Time and Greatest Hits: My Prerogative are pretty good catalog sellers, the rest are decent with the exception of Oops and Femme Fatale. I'm not gonna get into BJ.
In four years (2009-2013):
Quote:
...Baby One More Time - 81,000
Oops!... I Did It Again - 28,000
Britney - 40,000
In The Zone - 37,000
Greatest Hits: My Prerogative - 123,000
B In The Mix - 35,000
Blackout - 50,000
Circus - 125,000

March 25 - 31, 2013
...Baby One More Time 542 copies
Oops!...I Did It Again 192 copies
March 31st - April 7th, 2013
...Baby One More Time 496 copies
Oops!...I Did It Again 196 copies
April 21- 28, 2013
...Baby One More Time 486 copies
Oops!...I Did It Again - 109 copies
July 7, 2013 YTD sales
...Baby One More Time 13,840 copies
Oops!...I Did It Again 4,779 copies
It appears Oops sells around 100-150 a week (or as high as 200 on a good week) & BOMT around 480-530 a week!
BOMT is doing great as teen-pop albums are notoriously bad catalog sellers, Oops isn't doing half as good, however....

...Baby One More Time is a much better catalog seller than I thought. Assuming it's been selling 400-450 weekly, it must be at 10,630,000 through Nielsen Soundscan.
Nielsen Soundscan sales:
...Baby One More Time: 10,630,000 (10,614,000 in April 2014)
Oops...! I Did It Again: 9,220,000 (9,912,000 in June 2013)
Britney: 4,385,000 (4,375,000 in June 2013)
In The Zone: 3,010,000 (3,007,000 in June 2013)
Greatest Hits: My Prerogative: 1,475,000 (1,455,000 in June 2013)
B In The Mix: 135,000 (133,000 in June 2013)
Chaotic: 5,000 (4,000 in 2011)
Blackout: 1,025,000 (1,017,000 in June 2013)
Circus: 1,700,000 (1,692,000 in June 2013)
The Singles Collection: 240,000
Femme Fatale: 785,000 (779,000 in December 2013)
Britney Jean: 260,000
B In The Mix 2: 30,000 (27,000 in June 2013)
Playlist: The Very Best Of Britney Spears: 75,000 (41,000 in June 2013, re-entered the charts in December 2013, selling over 10,000)
Other releases: 50,000+
Total: 33,090,000

Britney gets credit but not the credit that she truly deserves but then again after this past album.. yeah.. but her numbers are def punching, and that 'greatest selling female artist of the millennium' is a huge title

Just bought OIDIA so I could play it on my phone I wish she'd perform OIDIA sometimes.
I'd guess P!nk and Bey are the only stronger catalogue sellers than her, atm, because they're currently more popular and actually promote their past material on TV, but I wouldn't guess any of the other girls are outselling her in catalogue sales.

And one she won't give up anytime soon.
She is #8 behind 7 female legends in the US #5 behind 4 female legends WW.
She can actually get to #7 if her older albums are properly certified and she can at least score gold/platinum + any more gh album she puts out.
She's already at 200M+ I would love for her to hit 250M records with these last 4 eras (mainly by singles but still)
a quarter of a billion records sold by 40 would be an amazing feat.
