Pokemon Revolution Online (PRO for short) is a Massively Multiplayer Online Pokemon RPG. It keeps a lot of the basic things from Pokemon so that you're not completely alienated (a choice of 3 starters (plus Pikachu) when you start in Kanto, 8 gym badges, Victory Road and E4, etc.), yet it changes enough to make it feel like a whole new experience. For instance, even though you start in the Kanto region, it's re-imagined and feels much bigger and atmospheric than it does in the hand held games. There are also 3 regions (Hoenn was recently added to the game - this month, actually! It's still being updated), and each region is a new, re-imagined adventure.
There are also some changes that make it adapt better to the MMO style of gaming. For instance, you can't breed. This adds value to more rare Pokemon (including shinies), and if you become a rare Pokemon hunter, it could turn into a lucrative business for you. Speaking of, money is harder to obtain, just to add more value to it.
If you're tired of the way the hand held games are played, and are up for a different experience that still holds the basics of Pokemon in tact, I sincerely recommend giving PRO a try! It has Pokemon all the way up to Gen 6, and includes the Fairy type.
