You know, I hate the Edge of Glory video as much as anyone on here. But I read on Wikipedia that Gaga had explained why they did it so simple and, even though it could just be an excuse to explain why it was so meh, as I was reading, it all sort of made sense. I got it. Here's the explanation if anyone here hasn't read it:

I used to dream when I was twelve or thirteen years old that someday I would get to wear Gianni Versace. I would look on the walls at the posters of all the legends that I worshiped and that I could someday make an impact on the Universe the way they did. And I had a fire-escape! Outside my teeny-tiny apartment in New York, and I would put on all my clothes, and go outside on the fire-escape and I would dance. I would play David Bowie, and The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Madonna etc. So I had this whole elaborate video planned for 'The Edge of Glory', but once I got out on the fire-escape and I danced in that one outfit, I realized that it was time to just have a moment to acknowledge myself, as a 25-year old who has been working so hard from the bottom of my heart. What does it feel like to be on your edge of glory?
I don't care what anyone says, I love TEOG video Love the color palette and simplicity--it's one of Gaga's best songs (possibly my favorite) and can totally stand on its own without any crazy visuals.
I bet the original video would've been a mess tbh. Also kind of nice to have a song for her grandfather not complicated by mermaids, soldiers, hospitals and whatever other stuff was supposed to be in the video.
She could have released that simple video as a preview or something to hold us over then. Still doesn't make sense how she would just fire hundreds of people and destroy whatever they had originally shot.
I agree with this TEOG video love. I've always loved it and the Versace outfit that Gaga wore is FLAW-FREE. Literally I mean flawless, perfect from top to the bottom. That's why I took a name Versace here. It's so good. And the purple/blue/black visuals are fantastic. I absolutely love it.

I've grown to adore the simplicity however I just can't let go of the original concept. It was suppose to be her most magical video yet
Wouldn't it be nice if she releases studio versions of these renditions in the meantime?
