The song is ok, not that great, I like its instrumental tho. Your essay isn’t strong enough to sell me the song, but I can see you tried, I’ll give you some points for that.
2. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: Velvet Rope – 9.5/10
Really good song, and you gave strong reasons to support your choice! Great job!
3. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: If I Forget Thee, Lowcountry – 2/10
This little poem isn’t enough to explain why you sent an instrumental song for this round. It’s relaxing, but I don’t get why you chose it. It wasn’t the right time to be risky, we’re in the top 5, any mistake can get you eliminated, you should’ve explained yourself better.
4. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Right Through You – 8/10
I like the song and its attitude. However, you spent too much time in your essay talking about the story of the song. I wish you’d given more reasons to explain why the song is worth showing at this point of the competition.
5. Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Medicine (f/ Blake Shelton) – 10/10
I looove this song! When I first heard it I was surprised by how well Shakira and Blake vocals blended together! You gave a lot of good reasons to support your choice, great job! Now let me bop to this song!

Your connection to this song is very apparent in your details. It's very funky and ear-catching right from the start. I'm surprised you never found use for this before because I see why you said it's one of your favorites and one of the ones you'd recommended.
9.5/10
2. Luigi - The Velvet Rope
I'm glad you found a way to put a personal touch on this. It helps show how versatile it is even this fat into the game because the songs still resonate and there are still strong ones to send in. I like your details and the fact that you said it shows just how she can still keep connecting to her audiences.
9/10
3. Bloomers - Yellow & Green
Very unique approach to this. It's certainly different for them, but your essay could've been longer and more descriptive of why you absolutely needed to show this song off.
6.5/10
4. Capital B - Jagged Little Pill
This was really close to just being a description of the song, which would not have been enough. However, your last sentence about this new theme is what made it strong. I'm glad you chose to show something different and represent another reoccurring theme from the album. It displays what all she's capable of.
9/10
5. Pedro - Shakira
Shakira is like the queen of genre hopping. She does everything and somehow manages to make it convincing. I'm happy you sent this because I do like this song and it does show yet another side of her musical spectrum. This was the perfect song for this round.
10/10

I really like this essay, especially how you described the importance of this song in relation to the entirety of the album. Nice work!
2. Janet Jackson -- 9.5/10
Your explanations and reasoning are very solid. I like all of the reasons you presented, as they are all relevant to both the song and the challenge. However, reading this essay felt a bit like reading a list of bullet points. I would have loved if you had strung it together and made the essay flow better. However, the ideas are really great.
3. Baroness -- 7.5/10
I love creative, unique ways of presenting information and ideas. However, I don't think this was the time for a poem, unfortunately. It doesn't solidify your argument in a very critical round where words are necessary for success.
4. Alanis -- 9.5/10
I think your essay was great! I would have liked to have seen some more focus on the album itself, but what you presented was a good angle from which to approach this topic.
5. Shakira -- 9.5/10
This is a really great showcase of Shakira's versatility and love of all genres of music! I like how you reminded us of the different styles of music that Shakira tried out during this album. Your explanation was good.
To everyone -- overall, you guys did a great job! You are going to make this tough to judge over these final rounds, I see!

It is rare that title tracks embodies the whole essence of the album, but Velvet Rope manages to represent the whole of The Velvet Rope through its vocal delivery, dark undertone and lyricism, which is why it is worth showcasing to someone who is new to the album. You gave very strong points relating to all those elements, although I would not get personal while trying to sell the song on a general scale. The last two lines felt unneeded, as we had already understood your approach from your essay. |
 | Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Right Through You
The back story of Right Through You is very inspiring for someone who faces oppression and wishes to break free and stand strong, and you highlighted those points very well in your essay. However, it seemed like you held back and focused more on the story instead of talking about the other elements. This round was about a song worth showcasing, but if I was new to Morisette, your essay only makes me aware of this song and I would think that her entire discography touches the same theme, and doesn't make me know much of the album. Please stay within the word limit. |
 | Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Madhouse
The first half of your essay did not really show why Madhouse is worth showcasing because it's more on a personal basis. You are selling the song and the buyer is not interested in how you discovered the song, or how it makes you feel, but rather what it would bring to them. Which is why the second half is very strong. You picked what you believe is a quintessential Kimbra song which represents The Golden Echo. The song emcompassing two sides of the singer gives the listener an idea of what to expect on the album, therefore worth displaying. |
 | Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Medicine (f/ Blake Shelton)
Presenting Medicine as a 'showstopper' as you put it is a clever decision since it makes the listener discover new sides of Shakira, and they would be more interested in listening to the album. Those points however lost their strength in an enthusiastic personal praise of the song rather than selling it to the buyer on a more general basis. The whole essay felt like an informal conversation with the reader with the 'you' references, the questions, or the 'I did ... but you wouldn't' lines. It felt like you were justifying your choice too much. I wish you could have been more direct in your approach and let the reader buy it. |
 | Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: If I Forget Thee, Lowcountry
In the run of this game, never has such an entry been presented.
Considering how far you came, such risks are very appreciated.
The reason you showcase If I Forget Thee, Lowcountry is clear.
A loud album ending with serenity is refreshing and held dear.
One mistake lies in your statement that this song ease stress,
which means that the loud ones are stressful, poor Baroness.
Each stanza of your poetry bore the same interpretation, alas.
Bearing no more than one reason, this round you did not pass.

Bloomers You were a great contestant, you should be proud of yourself to make the Top 5 with a rock album, I'd never imagine you'd be able to do that!
Interesting round. How are we supposed to judge that? For example, if Penk does a good job destroying Alanis' album, I should give him 10? This "10" will go for Alanis' album or for his original album (Kimbra's)?

The points would go toward Penk in general who would get to decide what to do with them. He could take those points away from Alanis, add them to his own, or split them half and half.
Bloomers though. I'm so happy you got a mostly unknown band, a moderately heavy one at that into the top 5 though. That's a real testimony to your knowledge of it and your writing skills.

I had a feeling I would be going this round and was at peace with it so I sent in my attempts at haikus.
Thanks Pedro for hosting, thank you judges (Igor, Inner, Element, and Kavish) for your feedback and kind words, and thank you to my fellow competitors for hearing me out through the competition and giving my album a listen. It's been a fun ride; I am honored to have made the Top 5!
Good luck to the Top 4!

I remembered something like that happened last season, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing that up.

Hello Friends, not sure if you hate me still but during my ban (unjust) ban i came across this deviantArt with some gorgeous Shakira covers and saved it to post here for Pedro as a sort of apology for my unreliability. Idk if you use fanmades but anyway:
