Thematically its so much more complex, plus it actually delivers on a conclusion, which BEYONCÉ had as well, but Blue didn't feel as final and inclusive as Freedom and All Night.
!!!
I thought BEYONCÉ told a story but XO was still sort of plonked in there for a pop song and while the Heaven/Blue contrast was amazing this flows so much better.
Freedom feels like the peak of the film as if it were a proper musical or something... then you have All Night being that final song and Formation as the BOP as the lights come on and everyone picks up their empty drinks and popcorn and leaves the cinema.
And that's currently my favourite thing about Lemonade. It's finally a story... it's what BEYONCÉ was when Bey said she wanted an entire visual... except this time it really is an entire story with beginning, middle and end. I just can't recover from it!
Hmmm so far it's good! Not great! Just good like self-titled! Literally a side step! Her voice has become so affected!
But let me finish the album before giving it a score!
I can't even do a trinity yet.. top 5 is Hold Up, Sorry, Freedom, All Night and Formation... but I also love Pray You Catch Me, Don't Hurt Yourself, 6 Inch, Daddy Lessons, Love Drought, Sandcastles and Forward so much.
EDIT: I just listed every single track I don't even have a "least favourite". Ugh Beyoncé how do you keep doing this??
The album title was inspired by Beyoncé's grandmother Agnéz Deréon, as well as her husband Jay Z's grandmother, Hattie White. At the end of track "Freedom", Hattie White is heard speaking to a crowd at her 90th birthday party in April 2015. During the speech, Hattie says "I had my ups and downs, but I always found the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade."
Hahaha I hate her lower register and it seems she loves it so much, now she uses it on almost every song!! I'm on 6 inches now and most of it was in her low notes 😢😢 I like the song and would have loved it if she didn't use the lower registers.
