Wow. Haven't really listened to the rest of 4 besides the singles, so I decided to listen to IWH.
QueenBey caught me off guard.

I had a meeting with the Black Student Union at my school today and we were discussing hair politics. A lot of the black women in my school are going natural and I felt hella awkward in that discussion with my relaxed hair.
Anyways, and I was waiting for it too, Beyonce was brought up. They were saying how she only wears afros when she is playing a 70s character or something.
The stan in me was hopping all throughout my system, I was trying my hardest to contain it. Because I don't let people know that I am such a huge fan of Beyonce. But then I said very stiffly, "Well, she WAS wearing afros a couple of months ago." ****ing hell, I just watched a series of concerts where all she seemed to want to rock was the curly fro.
Then they going to ask me if I'm confusing her with her sister. I am done.

That **** craaayyyy.
Anyway, I commend them going natural. Our Black women should be proud of who they are and what they look like naturally... ...beautiful.

The nerve. I would've let it go too if they asked something like that.

I should have went in. You guys are absolutely right. Because I had a whole rant building up about this stereotypical image of what a "true" black woman should like.
But my reservedness won out and I just said, "No, I am not confusing her with Solange and she has worn afros." Then they just went like, "Oh," and then turned it around to saying how much flack Solange received for going natural. Good lord.
I hope that by the time I graduate from this place I won't be so reluctant to say the things I want to say.

I just had something similar happen earlier. Me and a whole bunch of friends were sitting down having dinner and then Mariah Carey start playing and my future husband this boy start going on how he doesn't think Mariah Carey that great of a singer (mind u he's also a huge Beyonce Fan). And then he Beyonce could sing any Mariah Carey song. But, we all shut him down because that was fallacy.
But, then my other friend said Beyonce cannot sing a Mariah or Whitney song. Then I corrected him and said "Yes, she can sing a Whitney song." Then he start going on how Beyonce is only a performer and not a singer. That's when I went in full stan mode. He was saying stuff like Beyonce doesn't have a song that is challenging and what not. Then one of my girlfriends shouted out"Love on Top" and he said she lip syncs that song. That's when I really start going for his neck. Everyone had to calm me down.
Then he had the nerve to say let's talk about somebody better like Chris Brown.
Everything in me wanted to jump across the table and strangle him.

There are Mariah Carey songs she can sing. But a good chunk of them are challenging for anyone to sing but Mariah.
