It feels like BTW as far as the expanse of potential genres, but better.

Stefani said listen to Clarity to get a good vibe of ARTPOP. That was a while ago and things might have slightly changed, but I hope not. I'm really excited to hear what these two, and more, have cooked up. As long as the music is refreshing where it counts

I kind of agree with you. Especially with what she's been saying lately doesn't really fit the "rave" little sister of TFM she's been making it seem to be. But we will see. I thought BTW was less rock than she made it seem to be.

Maybe the whole "album in pieces ready to be sewn together" chat was referencing how eclectic the album is with samples and flavours?
It'd be interesting if she approached a dance/pop album like a hip hop album. Take Kanye for instance, he paints this big picture with so many different textures, samples and references. Imagine if she made a pop culture version? An interesting, unique Warholian fantasy which totally paints a picture of what ARTPOP is all about - the fusion of pop and art in musical form.
ZEDD said that she let him have free reign and not conform to conventional song length etc. so I wouldn't be surprised if she has the conventional singles and what not, but the album is much looser and the music takes priority - not conforming to 3 1/2 minute songs with conventional structure etc.

I think I know why she's going with some J-Pop flavors. Japan supports her more strongly than any other nation in the world right now, and she's been there enough times to become interested in their culture and the music they make. I think that she knows how strongly they support her, too - ARTPOP could potentially become one of the biggest western releases there in several years, if BTW's success is any indication.

I agree, and it's a very smart move. They have a better idea of her strengths and weaknesses post-BTW, so I think they'll address them.

BTW the album has sold that much?! Or is it including singles?
