It's coming out in Japan later this year, and they usually have worldwide release for Animal Crossing games.
If you look at the line-up, you can see some great games, but none can be considered THE holiday 2012 title. And NSMB2 is coming out in August. They need that big blockbuster in November/December... probably Animal Crossing.
Professor Layton is also coming later this year, and they didn't mention it.
