The original was stuck for WEEKS at #2 on the Hot 100 and was already going down slowly each week. It was obvious it had already peaked in terms of digital sales. It was smart of them to release the remix while the song still has airplay that rivaled E.T.'s.
It's not like the label just wanted to get a random #1, they are obviously trying to give Katy some competition and want Rihanna to maybe even tie the record for most #1s from an album.
So anyways like I said, only a moron couldn't see what the remix was for
, and Britney stans don't really care. It was a win-win situation for us. We are flattered that Rihanna's team knew that Britney was the star to achieve their goal, and we get another #1 in the record books.
