Glad to finally get my groove back (kinda?).
This next round is very open ended... How exactly will it be judged? If you simply just don't justify it's "worth" well enough? And it's sorta the opposite of the last round in a way.
|
Well I had to come up with a wide round so I wouldn't be called out for maybe paving the way for my album, you know what I mean? With this being said, you should pick that one song you would've used if you had a chance but you never had and explain why it is worth showing it off to the judges/public. The main reason should be because it is a good track or vital to the album, something like that.
The judges will mostly rate your essay but they also have ears so if the song is not that good they might as well say: "you should've kept this to yourself".
Is that clear?

MLD did good in this game
I kind of flopped the last round and I am swamped with finals for the next couple days. I will try my best to get the next round done asap.

I hate to do this, especially after the big break we just had, but I'll have to send tomorrow. Just overwhelmed by school. Maybe I can get it in before Pedro has to go asleep again, I hope.

If it makes it any better, I got a 100 on the test I was studying for instead of finishing my entry! Sending within the hour, you can deduct points for lateness.
EDIT: Sent!

Choose The Album, Then a Song 7: VOTE! [R11]
Welcome to the seventh season of ATRL original game
Choose The Album, Then a Song
Welcome to the eleventh round!
Alright! We are back on track! We are down to the top 5, can you believe it? You should! Right now, there's no time for joking. This may seem like a simple round but a single mistake may throw you out of the bus, pray there was no mistakes.
It was an open round where the contestants could send pretty much anything but did they got it right? Let's find out!
T H E R U L E S
For six seasons this game had its ups and downs and to make sure the 'downs' part won't happen again, I had to create a set of rules. So if you're signing up, this means you agree to:
1. DURING THE VOTING PERIOD, YOU'LL HAVE TO CAST YOUR VOTE (OTHERWISE YOU'RE PENALIZED);
2. YOU CAN NOT ASK FANS/FRIENDS TO SAVE YOUR ALBUM;
3. THE JUDGES HAVE TO BE FAIR. IF YOU DETECT BIASNESS OR UNFAIRNESS, LET ME KNOW.

1. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Madhouse

One of my favorites (I feel like I say that a lot!) on The Golden Echo is Madhouse! This was actually the first song I heard from the album because of a live performance from over a year ago that was put on youtube. From the second I heard it I fell in love with it because of it's obvious influence from Prince, and it being my favorite genre ever: funk! A deep bass and catchy groove always pulls me in to any song, and this was no exception. From the second the bass hits in at the 10 seconds mark, I always get moving. Beyond that, the lyrical content has lots of imagery of "devils" and "cocaine streets" and ultimately is about breaking free to reveal your inner "madhouse". Ultimately, this song is important to the album, and it would be a crime if I didn't use it, because it combines the danceable/fun and the "mad" side of Kimbra in one song, which on the album is omnipresent, but mostly separate (although that is in no way a bad thing). If I were to recommend one song from this album to somebody if they wanted an idea of what Kimbra was about, I would go to this song.

2. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: Velvet Rope

One of my favorite songs of the album is the title track itself, Velvet Rope. The track is dark and haunting and a complete departure from a majority of the more R&B tracks I've sent in during this game. The song just shows how versatile both the album and Janet is. Velvet Rope also perfectly embodies what the album is about. The track features Janet offering her hand to the listener to let her guide them into her dark and twisted experiences/world.
The production is absolutely a breath of fresh air and the creepy, shiver-inducing violin solo by Vanessa Mae is just the cherry on top. The lyrics are simple, yet poetic and relatable. "This special need/Brings out the best yet worst in us/Follow the passion that's within you/Living the truth will set you free" speaks volumes to me, personally, as I've had my own experiences with changing who I am to fulfill my longing to be accepted by my peers. These lines and the track itself can also heavily resonate with anyone who's been a victim of peer pressure and has made regrettable choices in order to achieve acceptance.
To conclude, I decided to send in this track in an effort to present not only one of my own personal favorites, but to showcase Janet's versatility and her ability to connect with the listener.

4. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: Right Through You

This round comes at a perfect time - I was just recently thinking how odd it is that I've yet to use "Right Through You", considering it's one of my favourites from this album. Sitting down to write, I reflected on just what it is about the song that I like so much - quickly realizing that it's a perfect reflection of Alanis' strength. Throughout her career, she's spoken openly and bravely about the mistreatment she's often faced from powerful men in the industry - assuming she is frail, emotional, helpless, and expecting her to act and perform a certain way simply because she is a woman. Alanis, however, is not the type to sit back and take this - which I adore about her. This track is a scathing reply to those aforementioned who have mistreated her. She calls them out, implying that she understands their true motives - she sees right through them. After establishing this, Alanis quickly turns the tables and leverages her new found success as a means to leave these men behind in her dust ("Hello Mr. Man, you didn't think I'd come back. You didn't think I'd show up with my army and this ammunition on my back"). Her strength, and refusing to be oppressed by those in power due to her gender is a theme that reoccurs throughout her entire discography and is something I find so inspiring. I am thrilled to showcase it this round, as I've yet to highlight this standout track, and theme, during my run in the game.
