There's no way around this. Calling being gay a "lifestyle" is obviously far from the worst thing you can say about gay people, but it's still problematic and it's a line of thinking that is negatively affecting the gay community as a whole, no matter how much the people who say it insist that they still "like and respect gay people".

Some of you need to gain some humility. Not everyone has to care for your cause and not everyone has to accept your cause. Be grateful if you're treated as a human being with respect from a person who disagrees with your belief, because that's an extremely rare unicorn to encounter nowadays.

From a religious standpoint, I understand my religion and many others state that having a homosexual identity (via biological tendencies) is not sinful and that it serves as a test for God. It's what actions that are accounted for, and by acting on them via making the lifestyle choice of acting upon those tendencies are what counts as sins. Again, the implication with her and your statement is that making gay choices is sinful and wrong. And from that perspective, you are acting as though you are above gays for not succumbing to your innate gay desires. If God was rewarding people for not being gay, then it's not up to you to approve or dissapprove of anyone's lifestyle, it's God's. I'll pray for you and anyone else who uses God to justify homophobia or self-shame, especially when none of us have never directly communicated with the man himself, to infer such information.

dd I guess there's no way to know. I would presume she disagrees with same sex marriage fundamentally but doesn't campaign against it politically, but that's just my guess.

Maybe I just say this because I live in a place where basically everyone believes this way. If I went out of my way to clock everyone I'd have no friends and too many enemies. My own parents are the same way. They disagree with gay marriage and probably vote against it, but they respect me and want to me to be happy, so they want me to find a man to marry and make me happy. I may not love their ideals but they love and respect me so I'm content and have no inclination to change their beliefs.

And I say all this as a 100% gay man with no religious beliefs/affiliations

From a religious standpoint she considers marriage to be between a man and a woman. As a thinking, feeling human she wants gays to be happy in whatever way possible. There's obviously some tension there but life is never black and white. It's really not something I can explain simply on a pop music forum
