Because certain members are more objective and have greater knowledge of musical landscape. There's a difference between someone who knows only 50 female artists (most of them being 00s+) and someone who is actually familiar with say 500+ female acts from around 40s onwards.
Well I personally could go on for days naming female artists. I have absolutely no problem in that regard.
However, this is still an unfair thing to do. The list asks everyone to name their 15 favourite female artists ever. I don't see why one opinion should matter more than the other. If that's their favourite artists ever, who are you to say that someone else's list is better? There's absolutely no such thing in music. Music is the most subjective thing in the world. Every single person has differing musical tastes. It just so happens that Ace has put himself in the positioning of determining and manipulating the list so as to ensure that his favourite artists do well.
What's the point if it's manipulated and filtered like that? The list isn't going to be a true representation of all of our opinions.
My list will be a reflection of the female artists I love at this moment. There isn't much disparity between "best" and favourite for me, just as there isn't for the now vs. all-time argument. But if you want to keep it objective... the obvious traits are innovation, style, historical context, and a couple others.
Get over the super-delegate thing. I assume its meant to offset some of the mess a lot of ATRL'ers will no doubt include on their lists. At least it'll be a fair reflection of the forum's taste and a lil bit of respectability.
Gotta admit, I haven't been a fan of half of the female artists that have debuted in the last 15-16 years.
Yeah because before Shirley, women already did stuff like this:
Right?

No.
We can agree to disagree, but no.
Not going to bother to explain myself - but look at the Grammys. For the past twenty years, since NARAS instituted the Blue Ribbon Panel to choose the nominees for the big four categories - haven't they gotten a LOT better?
So, no. But if this is a convoluted way of saying you want to be a super delegate, all you had to do was ask!

There isn't, but there is with greatness imo.

Yeah, wanted to respond to a criticism Subomie and Eli had.
Honestly, there should be no difference between "favorite" and "greatest." Like, people should like all sorts of quality? Like, you shouldn't like junk. So the wording doesn't need to be changed either.

Yeah, like ATRL has a reputation as a place where Britney would be number one on a list like this and someone like Jessie J would have a strong chance of going top 50.
There are also members who won't be happy until Patti Smith and Laurie Anderson are top way.

The list is clearly not about ATRL's favourite female singers. We all know who those are: Gaga, Britney, Rihanna, Taylor and Katy. This list is about who ATRL thinks are the greatest female artists of all time. Those able to put their "faves" behind for a moment and draft an objective list is what this thread is looking for, but it's not gonna happen the "normal" rates way. I think it makes this rate a lot more fun and different than the others.
Right but you have to start thinking objectively tbh... The greatest warrants reasoning and rationale, instead of saying "in my opinion" or "I feel like". You have to think about the artists' innovation, style, historical context, etc using evidence and research. It's easier than ranking albums/songs though.

I use the words interchangeably all the time But I think there is and should be a difference.
For one second, I was thinking about including my fellow countrywoman Nina Hagen as the Godmother of Punk on the list, but hell, Nina hasn't released much good music after the 1980's.
"Du Hast Den fFarbfilm vergessen" remains flawless and her vocals are incredible

A few legends everyone should consider - MC Lyte, Siouxsie Sioux, Nico, Debbie Harry, Peaches, En Vogue, TLC, Queen Latifah, Grace Jones, Sister Sledge, PJ Harvey, St Vincent, Tori Amos, Dusty Springfield, Laura Nyro, Labelle, Chaka Khan, Annie Lennox, Billie Holiday, Khia.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame accepts virtually every type of music (except Country, weirdly enough.) Use R&R as a catchall for "music in general."
Its not really fair to say this.
Its not like R&R HoF completely ignores country acts. Artists like Johnny Cash, The Allman Brothers, Bonnie Raitt etc. were inducted. And you cant really blame the Hall for lack of the more "traditional" one dimensional country acts when the genre is just stuck where it was for ages and thats the reason why all the progressive country artists always end up doing crossover stuff.

No, I'm good thank you. I'll remain in the gutters with the rest of ATRL, representing the classes and that.

it's to prevent fans ruining it I guess
i mean lets face it, we're all kinda biased
